BA - 8 years to 777 Command?
Just spoke to a buddy who was interviewed by BA recently - They told him Command on Short-Haul is 5-6 years. Command on the 777 is 8 Years and the 747-400 is 12 years!
Also said start salary is 55K+ Sounds a bit quick to me - Has BA got any huge expansion plans going on and how is it this quick with retirement to change to 60? Can anyone in BA shed some light on these times? Cheers |
Arse! Lowest LGW command went to about 7 years this year but has since been revised upwards. LHR shorthaul command is about 10-12 years. 777 command about 14, 744 about 15+. No expansion plans. These estimates from BA wouldn't have anything to with the fact they can't recruit because people don't like the time to command would they? Retirement age hasn't changed yet but if it does add about 3 years minimum to those command times.

Rubbish!! The figures being bandied about at the moment are 10-12 years for a shorthaul command and 15 years ish for a long haul command. I wouldn't trust what the recruiters say because it is in their favour to pedal these wild figures as this is the sticking point for most type rated pilots not coming to BA. Of course these figures are changable, it could come down to 5-6 years if BA find a massive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and they expand madly whilst refusing to impletement the new European Law allowing pilots to stay on until 65 years old!!!!

Oh!...
Dream on, boys!...

The real figures worked out by me last week based on BALPA seniority list:
Captain 737 5yrs, C320 12yrs, C757 13yrs, C777 19yrs, C747 20yrs. FO 757 2yrs, P777 2yrs, P747 3yrs. (But frozen first 5 years) These are all 'ish based on 3000 seniority now. New joiner is about 3200. If retirement age goes to 60 at BA add 5 years. There are all sorts of variables though so I'm working on the above figures plus 3 years. |

If it is any help.....a mate of mine just got a 777 command on Pay point 17 and I gather the most junior 744 command will be circa Pay point 18 this year. As the above posters have mentioned, it is expected to change for the worse when the new retirement legislation comes in next year.

Nearly fell off my chair! I should get my 777 command this year at that rate. Could do with a pay rise..... :D :D :D :D :D :D
The LGW 737 Command can be achieved currently at about eight years. From the seniority quoted by Flying Tom, he's looked at the "grandfather" commands of the ex CityFlyer captains. If they leave LGW 737s, they'll lose their commands as they won't be senior enough on other fleets. By the time anyone joining today gets to command level, expect 12 years to a 737 LGW command, 13-14 years for LHR shorthaul and 19+ for LHR longhaul. There's plenty elsewhere on here detailing the above. Sorry I can't be more positive for you. |
Well ive just read this thread and im off to bed. there is only one person in command in that cockpit ,aways has been always will be, and shes already in it. Now wheres my monkey..naughty monkey ...naughty monkey

My mate got his Airbus command yesterday - he's been in for 8 years - he is bottom of the Airbus seniority list and might see a weekend off within the next 3 years!
|
Nice one. Sadly, no-one joining today will be able to do the same.
