Cargolux

Do pilots enjoy flying for Cargolux? I see their planes quite often and I have heard them flying to some interesting points, like Laticunga, Ecuador. Any interesting layover stories? How about the pay and the time off? It seems like you could really see the world flying for them. Thanks so much. Cheers!

Used to be a great company to work for 6-7 years ago, but no longer. Once you are beyond the initial excitement of flying a 747 (which can happen quickly), you will find quickly that being away that much is destructive to your family live.

Having that said, it entirely depends on your circumstances. If you don't mind being away a lot and want to live in or around rainy LUX, then it might be OK.

If you have -or plan to have- a family and commute, then the chances are, that you will not be happy there.

On the positive side, the training and atmosphere is good and the job is relatively secure.

You may however want to get very familiar with what I would call the "Luxembourg Factor" which is very unique, but that has nothing to do with Cargolux itself.

other than that corporal klinger's statements all all correct (first hand this time)

Avius,

Besides leaving the excitement of the 747 behind, are there any layovers you enjoy or look forward to? There must be something fun about your job, even though you may never see your family. Heck, sounds like you could have a few families around the globe. (joking) Anywhere fun you enjoy? South America vs North America, or Africa, etc? Thanks so much. Cheers!

Good question Donkey Duke. With so many potential layovers, there have to be some preferences and then some really poor layovers.

Beyond the recent ab initio pilots, where do Cargolux get its pilots - from the IT carriers or regionals (like Lufthansa Cityline or Eurowings)?
