GB Airways

Please can any GB Airways pilots give me some gen on the Company regarding happiness, lifestyle, T's & C's etc. It looks like my current employer wants to shut my base (MAN) and I'd like to stay and I know GB are about to start up there. I have heard good things about the company but they are 'friend of a friend of a colleague' sort of thing and few and far between.
Thanks in advance.

Hi MerseyView,

I think youŽll find that GB already have their crews ready for MAN, for the first aircraft this season.

Good luck!

Thanks pjumbo, I'd heard they have enough for startup at MAN but hopefully there will be some expansion in the pipeline.
Is it regarded as a good company to work for by the crews?

More than a bit knackering, according to those that know. Up to 850 hrs now, which is a complete change from previous times. C'est la Vie!

Don't know where you got your info but it is still 775 hrs per year.

The Scarlet Pimpernel 25th February 2005 20:08

Sorry Roy - talking out of your posterior - 775 agreed max! Most people pretty happy with a modest expansion allowing several new commands this year. Great people to work with - 99.99% of flights are a nice day out!

I'm happy anyway! :D

RoyHudd 25th February 2005 20:51

Bloody Hell, my posterior is talking again without my permission! Sorry if mis-leading, reporting from a left-seat chap at GB. Maybe just seems like 850 hours. 775 is peanuts, after all!

Naughty Girl

The GB interview is very relaxed - there are no wacky psychometric tests or technical questionaires. There will be a company presentation by them, a brief group exercise and an interview. The interview is usually conducted by a senior captain and a human resources lady. It is very straightforward with no awkward questions. Stuff like - "Tell me about an tricky situation you have had with a captain" is about the hardest. There is also a buffet lunch where you stand around and talk with the pilots that are doing the interviews - this actually forms part of the assessment so you should avoid saying anything stupid! If you are successful they will phone you within 24 hours and invite you to a sim ride on the 737 - even though they are an Airbus company and you may be Airbus-rated.

My best advice is just to be yourself - they are delightful people and know exactly who they want so do not try and be something you are not. Best of luck.

Are they recruiting just Airbus people at the moment or are different experience levels considered...

Is there a reason why somebody would want to go to GB versus Easy or Ryan? Is the pay better or advancement better? Are the trips or destinations a factor? If someone had a choice, which would you select? Cheers!

WHYEYEMAN 5th March 2005 20:09

DD: GB surely!! versus easy and ryan? Come on!!

Spearing Britney 5th March 2005 20:29

sickbocks - there aren't any airbus rated peeps left, ask PARC/BA/BMED or even GB...

zerograv 6th March 2005 17:49

Spearing Britney

Do you mean people with experience on type ..... or people
with just the rating?
Cheched their web site but, apparently, they have finished or,
are not, recruiting at the moment.

Cheers,
Zerograv

Spearing Britney 7th March 2005 10:16

Experienced Airbus pilots willing to move are rare at the moment. GB get enough unsolicited CVs without ads ;)

zerograv 7th March 2005 18:13

Thanks!!!
Reakon they are going to get another unsolicited CV.

Cheers,
Zerograv
