does anyone know of any pilot getting a job with a regional o mayor airlines, after declaring bankruptcy...

do you think it would be a problem when they do the background check???

To have been declared bankrupt does not infer any criminal activity and bankruptcies can be declared following a state of insolvency for many different reasons. I know of no airline which carries out the type of creditworthiness checks which would reveal previous or current bankruptcy. For what it's worth however, I would seriously question the wisdom of volunteering such information if specific questions were not asked in the application form(s). Good luck. bm

Your bankruptcy is irrelevant. Don't worry about it but at the same time don't go offering the information to anybody. The only person that needs to know is the official receiver.

I'd bear in mind that security issues revolve as much around the likelihood of your being a possible target for blackmail as any other matter. So, to have any skeletons in your closet is a bad thing. Also, things have tightened up in this respect a lot recently, just be careful you don't end up walking a one-way street to unemployment...

Sorry to be vague, but I get uncomfortable when security vetting is discussed here. My advice, if you haven't yet got the licence, is to pursue another career - but that would be my advice to you anyway!!!

I would think that the reason for the bankruptcy would be germane. If it's the result of a failed business venture, it shouldn't be a problem. After all, the person in question is seeking salaried employment which is what English courts require him/her to do to salvage the financial situation. An airline will be more concerned with flying abilities than financial acumen.

On the other hand, if the subject had used bankruptcy as a cynical ploy to avoid repaying, for example, a student loan then any potential employer might have concerns about his/her probity.

Whether to admit bankruptcy to a potential employer must be a personal decision, bearing in mind that most contracts of employment these days seem to have embedded provisos about failure to disclose pertinent information.

Bankruptcy won't hurt you at all... (In the U.S. of A)

I went bankrupt during the divorce process in 1997. Didn't affect anything except that I could now afford to eat and drive to work.

If anyone asks why, just say that the Tempory Support Order for my wife was more than my take home pay.

Don't laugh, it happens in Massachusetts.

After bankruptcy, expect a deluge of credit card offers. Reason why?

I would not volunteer the information, but I declared bankruptcy
years ago due to massive uninsured medical bills after my oldest son was born and had a 2 week stay in intensive care.

Little problem getting credit for a while, but no problem with the
major (American airline) that I work for. I wouldn't worry about it.

When I received an American Airlines application package, it contained a form for release of credit information, this is the only time I have seen this, (this was over three years ago now - obviously). As American haven't interviewed any pilots for more than forty-one months, and with a lot of chaps and chapesses still on furlough, I doubt American is on your career radar anyway...

Bankruptcy is not ascertained on a security check, I have confirmed this with the people that do it, and you can check for yourself, give them a call.
So its only going to come out if you volunteer it, or its asked in the interview or application. Even then does it really warrant you not getting the job because of this.

Just a heads up on credit checks.................Don't just get them willy nilly. Every time a credit comnpany or hire purchase outfit does a check on you they have to ask your permission.

THE REASON:

Is because every time a check is done on you it effects your credit rating (badly).

I would be very hesitant about releasing any finanacial info to anybody unless you are completly sure its on the up and up.
