Living arrangements for Airlines
 

Not sure if this is in the right Forum so my apologies and please feel free to move it to a more appropriate one Mods . . . . .. . .

Just wondering if many people live outside of the country they work in ? For instance, I have heard of people living in the France but working for UK companies out of LHR etc.

How far does this extend ? Do people live in the US and work in the UK ? Has anyone explored this option with regards to UK companies ? Does anyone know if such companies have policies regarding this ?

Fully aware of JAR/FAA implications with regards to qualifications and the need to be on standby etc.

I know one Cathay 744 Captain, he lived in Cayman and was based in New York, he commuted quite regularly.

I know one bloke who commutes from Inverness to Heathrow, living in France should be a damn sight easier I would have thought!

I was told that maybe a third of the BA jumbo fleet lives in France

I guess it depends what kind of flying you do - if it is short haul and you need to be at work every day for a week, then you will need to keep a flat or room near work then head off back home for your days off.

Long haul will be easier - if you're working for a week or so then off for another week, then it is more practical to go home for the week then fly back in when you are next on duty, so you may not need to keep a room near work.

Having two homes is expensive, so I guess it can be done it just depends on how much you want to spend and how long you want to spend travelling!

I commute since 8 years. I worked in Egypt and lived in Germany. Then I worked in UK and commuted from south of France and now I am in Asia and back to Germany. It works if you want to make it work.
