Austrian Airlines Pay rates
Does anyone have a pay scale for Austrian Airlines? Do they work on a typical 12 year pay scale? Does the larger equipment pay more?
Thanks |
I can unfortunetly not tell you anything about AUAs pay scale, but I can tell you something about salaries in austria:
You get 14 monthly salaries by law, double salaries in June and November. The double salaries are only taxed to 4% (not sure, but thats the number that pops into my head). You get 40 days off by law (quite sure of that one) As most contries in Europe, AUA pays via the seniority scale, not the type. |
I do not have actual figures in mind, but here in Switzerland we know Austrian guys and made some comparison within unions. AUA pilots are one of the best paid pilots in Europe, if not in the whole world. Especially if you compare it with the lower cost of living (which has also changed a bit since Austria is in EU/Euroland).
On the other hand I think it's not easy to get in, I think they do not hire. You may confuse it with Tyrolean, which is the only growing part within the group and trying to take over more and more of flights. There is a hard fight going on between the two unions, pressure to outsource is high and will continue. Intermittant there are signs of the big war (menace of industral actions). |
Thanks, I had heard that they pay well but I was looking for some definative numbers to do some comparisons.

Don't know how accurate it is, but at least there are some numbers here.

5 weeks vacation for airliners in austria.
Dani, in fact theres no fight between these two unions. In fact they are working in merging seniority scales and trying to convince management about that. Management is trying to keep them separated but what time can do... Payscales are still different, especially in the higher ranks but Tyrolean is now hiring a lot of new pilots and it looks quite good. Expansion is going on at this very moment and delivery of the second F100 is just in a few weeks . Leo |
Leo77,
you´re right and not when stating that Austrian and Tyrolean are merging - Austrian is consisting of Austrian, LaudaAir and Tyrolean Airways (Austrian Arrows nowadays) - at the moment Austrian and Lauda are putting their flight-operations together - on ground and the flying staff - e.g. seniorities Austrian Arrows will stay independent within the Austrian Group - i think the Austrian management will keep that in this way - check the salary-scales and then you will know why!! - maybe Austrian Airlines will start hiring soon - unconfirmed, but better chances at Tyrolean at all for the youngsters Greetings :ok: |
We at Swiss are also merging - put them together, the stronger survives :yuk:
I honestly do not believe that you could ever merge two pilots corps as long as the salary lists are so extremly far away from each other. |
Austrian pays the same pay on all types of equipment.
Salaries are paid 14 times per year although that is not by law but by contract. 13/14 salary are subject to SS deduction and a flat tax only, otherwise taxation tops at 50%. There is no fight between the unions. A complete seniority merger did not work out last year, but there are still talks on how to integrate Tyrolean (Austrian Arrows) pilots into a career system with Autstrian which would also be interesting to Austrian because of the number of F.100s to be operated by Tyrolean. (Austrian Arrows is just a brand, the company is still called Tyrolean.) Austrian Captain's pay tops at app. 12.500 EUR/month for old contract captains and 10.000 EUR/month for new contract captains, after about 15 years as captain. Tyrolean Captains earn app. 5500 to 7200 EUR (17 annual increases). Austrian is still negotiating the contract so this might change although it is not very probable. |
Those were the numbers that I was looking for thhanks for the help
