I have 9000 TT. Close to 3000 on the 737, but none in command. Working with one of the major airlines. What is the deal with getting an upgrade with Easy jet? What would the pay be? And how does the 75 or 50% deal work out? Can I work half the year and take the rest off?

Most guys take home around the GBP4200 mark a month having flown around 38-44 sectors. Part timers get 9 clear days a month off in a row every month but still work fairly hard when they are working. Upgrade process worked OK for me although lots of guys complain that they have to be recommended by one person i.e. your base captain. Many feel that this should be a decision that should be made by a group, not by an individual. Money is OK, nice people, new aircraft (most of the time), airbus rating to come and home every night. Some of our rostering can cause fatigue but it IS improving. If you want a shorthaul command and don't mind hard work I'd recommend it - just a personal slant on things, it's not perfect by any means and there are plenty of guys looking to get out.....

can anybody expand on the part time rosters, for example the 75 % rosters, how many days in a row off, how many days off during the work period and what is the typical takehome for somebody on the 75%

The info above refers to the 75% deal - the only guys I know who are part time are 75%. They do tend to do a solid three weeks of flying I am told but get the 9 clear days off every month as well as the usual rostered days off. Not sure if they work to the 6 on 3 off pattern though - it may be they work a random roster not 6 on 3 off like most of us (you can opt out of the 6/3 pattern if you so desire). Pay rise due this month so take home I would imagine to be in the GBP3200-3400 ballpark but I stand to be corrected. I would be surprised if they would let you work half the year and take the rest off but again I stand to be corrected by someone 'in the know' - seems perfectly reasonable to me. Of course part timers increase costs for a LCC so despite legislation I am sure Easy don't want to see a large increase in the number of part timers. The upgrade starts with a recommendation for command by your base captain. This will generally occur once he is happy with your past performance in the sim and on line i.e two consecutive good sim checks at least (and you have at least 3000 factored hours - no problem for you Aero!). Three line assessments with 3 different training Captains, sim assessment and interview follow and providing all goes OK you should be on a command course. This is 3 days groundschool, 4 fixed base sim sessions, 4 full flight sim sessions plus a minimum of 30 sectors line training. Sectors 21/22 are the line check with 8 more observed, 29/30 being the final command check. A busy course but a very good one in my humble opinion - I think our training standards are high and well regarded generally. Hope this info is useful Aero.

50% part timers seem to work about 10 days a month for a take home of about £2500/month.

I think it's 5/2/5/rest of month off.....

I really don't think your lifestyle can be greatly improved working for Easy unless you can afford the 50% option. You may have to go full time for a while before this is an option so make sure you get whatever you need in writing before any commitment is made.

If you can opt for the 50% option, that might suit you. BUT, check very carefully the current conditions. If history repeats itself you will likely do 60% of the average pilot production for 50% salary. You WILL do 450hrs and no SBY's. Hardly equitable, but there is no apparent redress. A classic 'life's not fair' scenario.

I think you have to do a year of full time before you can apply for part time. 75% is not such a good idea apparently as they can manage to get you to do 100% of the work for 75% of the cash. 50% seems to be a better option if you can afford it. If you join on the bus you won't need to be part time as there is so much training going on you'll only fly 20-30 sectors a month! (not sure how long that will last though). Training is very good with just the usual hiccups you would expect from a company with a brand new fleet to introduce. As for the bus..well its got all the toys that its bigger brother's have (except HF) and is very nice day out!
