JAL-which bases for foreign pilots?

Just curious.

Chatted two nights ago with a 747 FE (in a southern US hotel) as he was leaving for a cargo flight on the "Classic". He said that some subsidiaries of JAL recently hired some pilots from the US and some are based in Anchorage and/or Honolulu. He confirmed some very baffling, almost unbelieveable stories about groundschool over there, as if extra useless theory can compensate for a lack of experience...

Has JAS also hired foreign pilots? For which crewbase(s)?

JAL mainline hired foreign pilots many years ago, but they do not anymore. You must be a Japanese national, and must also be fluent in Japanese to work for the mainline. (which has all the new equipment)

Like said, JAL subsiduarys hire onto 747 classics, and DC-10's. The 10's are rumored to be up for retirement though.

Good luck.

Have a friend who got hired last year as 747FE based in HNL.
Ex ExpressOne 727FO/FE.

Thanks. I have a really good job, and was only curious about who gets based where, after chatting about it in the hotel lobby (ATL) on my last layover. Some of our furloughed guys work for a JAL subsidiary somewhere.
