I was thinking of applying to excel but heard A RUMOUR the morale is in the dumps amongst the flight deck, anyone elaborate.
Is it true some crews are being forced to fly for ryanair away frrom their bases ,flouting cap371, and that base security is becoming non existant?

why fly for the parrot when the pirate pays more.

well our sources of information differ. I was under the impression that out of the 738 fleet some were temps,some were part of an arrangment with miami air(ie semi permenant) and most permenant.
I was curious as to the veracity of a source who intimated that , In addition to the seconded crews,some of the permenant pilots were coerced into operating a wet lease to ryanair,away from their bases flouting 371.
my point being that i wont bother to apply if its nothing more than a glorified agency, airatlanta not withstanding.

better to take the ryanair offer i have and get paid more for the same work.

not looking to slag em off just curious.

From the chief pilot at last month's BALPA EOC conference in London: a number of crews are routinely seconded to Ryanair during the winter months and then come back to XL for the following summer charter season (unless of course they are on temp contracts anyway).

Since XL and Ryanair do not share operating bases, I would think that the rumour that they are operating away from their bases rings true...

The Miami Air subcharters were off the cards this year.

Operating away from bases?? Isnt that fairly standard in our game folks? Which is why they are getting an allowance, hotac and hours being closely monitored to ensure compliance with Excel FTL scheme as approved by CAA etc. Their roster is still written by XLA.
Morale may not be perfect cos a winter in the Caribbean is no doubt preferable to a winter in Stansted, but no one has been "coerced" - thats where the aircraft are so thats where they go. There were meetings and agreements and its all legit.
As for the actual contracts, well much more than half of the pilots are contracted with only the hardcore few being permanent Excel crew.
Sorry, i know scandal is more interesting than routine, but barking up wrong tree here!
oh, and Mr Vulture - Excel Aviation is part of our group but a separate company who run a much larger fleet than just ours. They deal with Futura, Azzura, Atlanta et al, so the fact they have more work than they can allocate at the moment i take as a good thing. And if the Miami air stuff is cancelled can we have our aircraft and crews back please??

Crundale your profile says ops which would explain your lack of understanding as explained to me by an ex colleague on the job.

The manchester crews are being asked to operate from stansted but are not positioned or rested iaw cap 371, only layed over for an indefinite period.

The deals you mentioned were compromises made under duress of being rebased.

The above apparantly only touches on what the company tried to get away with .Initially they were ordered to position in their own time for flying in stn with no supporting paper work to rebase them. ergo cap 371 still applies to their "normal Place of work" details in the book.

I have had a comprehensive briefing from two balpa members (and old friends not prone to whinging) involved in the contract, and things are a lot worse than a bit of poor morale.

If you have info to counter this i would like to hear it.

Sorry CH4, just repeating what the man told the audience at the BALPA EOC on Sat 11th October - I was there. Last time they checked, my audiogram was OK, so, no, I'm not hearing voices...
