Air Scandic

Can anyone verify whether Air Scandic is still in the land of the living... have heard that their pilots have been reprieved - ie re granted their original jobs on the A 300 - but that their trading name has changed..... "Lapland Air" no less... :D

A300's in Helsinki.

Was up in Helsinki last week and both A 300's were parked up.Don't know about the driver's but the aircraft were very much alive and still in Scandic colours !

Crew have been told that A300's G-TTMC and G-SWJW will no longer be flying for Air Scandic. There is no flying program and no hadj this winter. Three Finnair B757-200's will be leased for next summer, two based in Manchester and one in Newcastle. IFD's on permanent contracts are retained, and summer season only cabin crew should be brought back online, for the B757 ART course in April..... they have not been told otherwise.

The A300's operated on the Air Cordial AOC, and were crewed by ex Finnair/NEA flightdeck. The 757's are crewed by 'mainline' Finnair pilots, operating in the UK as part of their Finnair roster.

So as for next summer, it *LOOKS* like B757 + flightdeck X 3 leased from Finnair, Cabin Crew employed by Scandi Resources to crew all three aircraft, operating on the AOC of Finnair......SCY changes all the time - great people, but you never know what is round the corner :)

cheers,

Straight six,

Yes, Air Scandic is still going strong and very much so in the land of the living.
The Airbus A300s will be flying again next season having sorted out a few training technicalities and the pilots are now being retained :)
The above is all good news. Unfortunately as you also mentioned Air Scandic may be changing its name to Lapland Air. (the bad news!!) None of the employees are enthusiastic about this name. Air Scandic is a name reasonably well known in the Northwest so why change it ? If it has to go lets have something a little more dynamic and relevant. The airline is on the whole British, flying from Manchester to the Mediterranean so where does Lapland fit in ??
Air Scandic is a great company to work for, with some great people, so come on management lets have a better name or keep the old one. (I fear though it is all too late)

I hear the A300's are due back with you mid-end February 2003.

Good luck for the future, there's never been a better Airline at sub-services!!!

One of the A300's has reappeared at MAN in full Scandic colours and markings

starship 6th Feb 2003 22:15

.....and the cabin crew are scheduled to do their 2 sectors to stay in check, or indeed get back into check on the type if they are not already.

The changes and new development from the people of Air Scandic are complex, but the A300 will be flying, and the B757 is planned to return on wet lease for the summer from Helsinki.

cheers
