Easyjet part time contracts.
 

Hi, I’d like to know if Easyjet offers part time contracts, since I’m trying to decide whether pursuing this career or not. My doubt is regard the fact that I’d like having a family in my hometown, meaning that I would have to commute to work. Is there anyone in the same situation?

It depends on the country you will be based in. Different country, different contract, with different part time options and rules.
Some options are available on a seniority basis and require a long time in the company, depending on the rank as well, other options are easier to get.
The first year would normally be full time, unless hired on a seasonal base.
I am assuming you have been hired already or have a start date? Because I would not make life changing career decisions based on the part time options of a single operator you are not even working for, especially one like easyjet, very picky when it comes to direct entry FOs and CPTs, especially in recent times.

Nobody can guarantee you a job at a certain airline, or that you'll be able to stay there under present terms and conditions forever. Bases open and closes, airlines go bankrupt, downsize, etc.

Don't go into professional flying, if you can't stand at least couple of years commuting, or moving to a different town/country/continent.

@Duca: I'm also considering a switch into professional flying, but only on a freelance/ seasonal contract. I think at the airlines, it would be difficult.
I would try bizjet-operators or ACMI-operators. But flying for these companies will not give you a salary to live of. So to have a plan B and stay part time in a good paying job would be wise.
When gained some experience, there will maybe better offers. But be prepared to pay for ratings and maybe other training expenses.
By the way: During my MCC/ JOC our instructor told us about a dentist, who flew for Germania on a part-time basis, but he paid for the rating (and maybe for the line-training).

Bear in mind Easyjet have just announced a plan to recruit 1000 MPLS from CAE in the next 5 years, this does suggest Easyjet will not be recruiting many pilots from other sources as it did in the past. So your options of getting into Easyjet will be limited. We are already seeing Easyjet taking on numbers of MPL cadets even though the EU market has plenty of experienced pilots looking for work. Easyjet seem to only recruit those that will generate revenue for CAE.

In fact that’s, eventually, the way I want to follow. It’s either mpl with ezy or not doing this job at all since paying for flight training would become a way bigger gamble.

There are other sponsored schemes though. I trained outside the UK with hours building in Polish Aeroclubs, so this may be another option for you even if it takes longer.

For what it's worth, I was told Part Time would be difficult at Easy due to base size (larger bases will likely be far easier). I left in late 2019 (after many years in the company with a 2 year break in the middle) for a company on a little less money but with a more suitable for my circumstances (but still full time) contract, however that hasn't been overly stable in the last 2 years and has a lot of out of base flying currently, where avoiding that was specifically my reason for choosing Easy (and the company I currently work for) in the first place. The other company also offers bases in both our home cities (in different countries, both non-EU), although the one we'd prefer long term wasn't a factor at the time of leaving.

I hate to burst a bubble but you pay in either case, and being on an MPL is absolutely no guarantee of a job - as demonstrated 18 months ago when a bunch of ezy mpl cadets got totally hung out to dry. Not saying don't do it - odds of that happening again are low - but please, please, please go into this with your eyes as wide open as they'll go.

I know that, MPL doesn’t guarantee a job but it surely improves the odds of it.

I don’t think any airline will promise you a part time contract, especially as you haven’t even started flight training yet.

If nothing less than a guarantee of a part time contract from the start of your employment is acceptable to you, then I think you should look for an alternative career, and I mean that respectfully.

I don’t think this industry or career can give you the guaranteed stability you want, at least not at the beginning, and probably not permanently either.

This person either doesn’t understand the aviation business model or is a wind up merchant.

If you are looking for a stable job and want to be close to your family I highly advise you to look for another career...

Could this be the new normal?
The desire to fly a jet is high but the Ts and Cs are low. The solution is part time with another more stable higher paid job.
I’m not sure what effect on standards that will have.
