Perhaps in the post-Brexit, post-COVID world, there is a light of hope yet at least for the UK industry?

Mandate by law that no AoC is allowed to base crews in the country unless they are duly employed by their airline. Definition of base along the logic of FTL, or better yet 2000/79/EC Council Directive 2000/79/EC - home base is where you take the mandatory off days.

BALPA (members) take note, that is a game changer. Unlike fighting the IAG masterminds who've prepared against a strike in their bi-annual recurrent training sessions for the last 25 years in a straight row.

Don't hold your breath waiting for any co-ordinated action. After this cluster f**k its every man for himself.
What a depressing article.

The EU, the so-called protector of employment rights, no wonder MOL likes them so much. I expect he produced the blue print for zero hr contracts rolled out across the empire.

I think the article you are referring to is absolutely correct. BUT, it comes from the European Cockpit Association..

https://www.eurocockpit.be/news/covi...crew-redundant

The website that ‘Vicky’, the so called reporter that belongs to the website you refer to in your post is doing nothing but copying and pasting someone else’s news.. Their privacy policy & terms are even only written in Greek !!! For crying out loud, stop feeding these websites with leads..

If, as pilots you want the very open and honest opinions of our employment legislation and the fallout from it, please stop posting links to gregarious websites that are sharing only to further the click-bait community that is looking at it..

If you as professionals need news, please dedicate and educate yourselves as to where to find the best place for it ..

Thank you.. Rant over.. Oh wow what a predicament our industry finds itself in.

Best wishes all.. But read the good things from the correct sources, not the ones you just get delivered in your hotmail junk box..

Ad..

It's worse than that. While the self-employment model is still illegal in France, UK, and Germany, the East was forced to adapt and made it actually legal in several countries. Capitalism only works if bending the rules is being punsihed and we seem to be beyond the breaking point on that one.

If not stopped it is a butterfly wing effect. Imagine Wizz setting foot in the gulf and FlyDubai / AirArabia being forced to tighten their game down to their level, what'd be the knock-on effect of that. A domino effect across the global ex-pat pilot market (*). And thus eventually nowhere desirable to go after a local market collapse, a closed, force-feedback loop into the atypical employment models of the bottom feeders. Against whom Vueling need to exist from the business perspective, rinse and repeat!

(*)As if the pieces left standing were not as rare as hen's teeth.
