Ryanair bases in Poland.
 
Dear all,

does anybody have any actual insight on the Polish Ryanair bases? DECs’ rosters, hours, and therefore salaries?
We all heard about last year’s hype, but no factual data since. And what’s this Ryanair Sun they advertise in Poland? Any impact on pilot’s conditions?
Many thanks to whoever will contribute. In exchange I can offer info concerning similar carriers in the Middle East.

Hi,

Roster is 5 on 4 off.
Ryanair are short of captains so you can expect 800/850h per year.
Salary depends on the contract you have (and therefore how much tax you pay) I know very few captains employed in Poland with a direct Ryanair contract (netting around 5000€ month). Most of them were "availing" of the Storm contract, not paying the correct amount of taxes so they were definitely netting more.
Ryanair Sun is a ridiculous wannabe charter company.
Management started advertising Ryanair Sun positions internally stating that interested pilots needed to hurry up as positions were all almost filled. Those who wished to join Ryanair Sun would be "employed" on a contractor model only, working in summer only with a 5/2 roster. Salary lower than that in Ryanair "mainline", I only remember FOs would net around 3000€ net on average. Time passed and they kept on advertising, phonecalling polish pilots that were based outside of Poland (only a coincidence? Probably not), asking them if they wanted to join Ryanair Sun so that they could be based in Poland.
Right before starting the operations (1 month or so before) Ryanair started looking for volounteers to join Ryanair Sun on present contract conditions for the summer season. Outstanding positions would be filled with pilots borrowed from Ryanair mainline operating "out of base".
So in the end I guess hurrying up was not required.
I can't honestly see any advantage in joining Ryanair Sun as money is less, roster is worse, overnights, night flying and pick ups will be scheduled.

I wonder what are the chances of getting a direct Ryanair contract in a Polish base, and how likely you are to stay in the base you are assigned initially.
The “Sun” deal didn’t sound good to begin with, I can’t see who’d want to join under those conditions.
But even on a Ryanair contract, 5000 net on 850 hrs a year doesn’t sound inviting. They need to get a grip. Right now, it’s a pilots’ market.

Wrong - roster is 5 on / 5 off(for the Poland "deal"). And they are still searching. Seems they do not find enough RYR Captains willing to go to Poland at the moment. FO positions, according latest memo, filled up.
That's the sun deal.

Salary: Well, it always depends WHERE you are based. In other bases you can easlily make up to 8k €/month with a good month of RYR flying(96-105 hrs). The more east you go the lower the salary gets as they argue that the life is cheaper there. Which does not apply to Captains living in western Europe and only flying out of there, THAT's why they are still short of captains in Poland.....

Management in RYR is not really fast learning, it takes it's time. Eventually they will realize that and increase the salary....

So, “Eastern” bases are actually on a lower payscale? How do they pull that off? No wonder they’re short of captains.

I guess we gotta give them time to learn, then.

Roster is 5/5 now but for people that are volunteering for the summer season only and not with Ryanair Sun contracts. Initial offer when they first advertised in 2017 was 5/2 with different contract and I also recall something crazy like polish base in summer and canary island in winter.

i think you stand big chances of being based in Poland with a direct Ryanair contract, however as tomuchwork said, you'll be earning less in the east. Still remember few years back when Ryanair was flooded by applicants from Hungary, that they opened a new agency in Slovakia that was made ad-hoc for people applying from Hungary and nearby countries paying 10€/hour less if I remember well. Reason also being "living in your country is cheaper so you can earn less".

Speak to the recruiters directly, they will tell you what the best options are, this forum is full of rumours
Except that, raids at crew rooms aren't rumours. Ask them in Bergamo, Marseille and now Charleroi.

The recruiters wont tell you THAT... ;)

No sour grapes in particular, but the legality of the operation is questionable.

Answer is yes, now work for a competitor airline that play by the rules (sort of..)

Didn't want to answer at first but you seem to have your Ryanair glasses on. I was affected by the raids in Germany and actually still am. In the worst case they could have sued us and if judged guilty it would have ended our career. Cabin crew was working and still is without a Arbeitnehmerüberlassung.
To my knowledge flex t/o weight was also deemed not valid. They changed the T&C backdated so passengers couldn't sue them anymore. Was also deemed illegal by a court. The scratchcard scam is illegal in Italy for example, since the state holds a monopoly on lottery. The list continues. So yes indeed. The legality is questionable.

Just proving me that you have no idea what you're talking about. The issue was never about the taxes but the social insurance which was inadequately paid making it look like we're employed by a letter box company of which we are the directors at the same time.
Looks like you joined afterwards or you lived behind the moon the last couple of years.

What about the social taxes that Ryanair (or its minion staffing companies) failed to pay for cabin crew in Belgium? I was there at the time. I have some distant friends that were directly affected by the lack of medical coverage.
