West Atlantic
I've just seen stuff about DEC and the cadet scheme on LinkedIn, sounds pretty good - anyone care to tell me more?

This is a cut and paste from the Face Book page of someone at Atlantic West.
"A number of FB & other pals have approached me about this; it's the real deal, 50% work for a decent wage, at just under £70k basic It may not be a Ryanair, J2 or Thompson wage, but you won't be working your what-nots off flying 900 hours a year. The response has been excellent, interviews are currently being arranged for 15 applicants already, so If you are interested, now would be a good time " For what it's worth I never came close to 900 hours a year at Jet2, but did get deeply fatigued flying night freight when it was Channel Express, good luck to all that apply. |
Has anyone who applied heard from West Atlantic yet? Anyone had an invite to a selection day?

That's a good pattern on the face. Like the old days of flying. What's the catch? Always a catch.

There is a certain roster 5/4 so not much more work for £25,000 more per year. Its a real shame as I would love to work for them but it just doesn't make financial sense.

The only 5/4 I can think of would be Easy but that wouldn't seem to fit as "not much more work" |
Ryanair work a 5 on 4 off pattern, and I suspect RYR crews will fly a lot more hours than the West Atlantic crews, when I was flying night freight the flying hours were low but the duty, and the time away from home was high.

The Atlantic west deal sounds quite attractive but there are other B737 operators that offer 80% & 50 % deals ( usually once the line training I'd finished ).
I would caution those who have not done night cargo work that there is not much flying but the duty hours are long. The danger to your health is from fatigue, I quit night cargo when I started having visits to the rumble strips on drive home. |
