Loganair - rosters, t&c, general view
Hi everybody,
I am a long lasting reader of this forum but it is my first post. I am SF34 rated fo currently working on it and wondering about applying to Loganair. That would bring me closer to home. I was looking for any useful information about general work conditions and couldn't find much. Can anyone with knowledge shed some light? I'm particularly interested in rostering and atmosphere at work. There are some informations on pilotsjobnetwork but they are quite old. Is there anybody who can say if anything has changed in a meantime? There were recently some concerns about maintenance. Is there any improvement in the matter? Appreciate any input. |
Does anyone know what the current deal is with regards to the Type Rating? Is it bonded or does the candidate have to pay upfront?

It is a bonded type rating, I don't know the exact terms and conditions but i have a friend there in the RHS based in INV and he seems to love it

I don't think Logan will last to long especially with the huge exodus of pilot to Jet2, including a lot of training and management. Good luck though.

Well those big won't be hiring indefinitely. Actually I think it's great to eventually have upward movement creating places for less experienced.

Michael, it is is a good thing that you are rated. It's actually 15 or 17k for the rating depending on fleet. It's an upfront payment too. Company then pays you back over 3 years. It's not a bond in the true sense of the word.

Why on earth were they scouring the gulf last summer, then? Not much VFR or HOTAS flying over there, me thinks! However make sure they interview them! Seem like their HR dept. is on a quest to ignore systematically ANYONE with some kind of skills in favour of...who knows? And this ain't even the worse as they seem to take ages to turn people down even if they "clearly" not meet the requirements. |
Putting the Jet2 usual carnage aside!
You will find Loganair the most rewarding flying you will ever find! I would think the exodus is down to positive recruitment for non-type rated type folks for a long time possibly coupled with a strong culture change (I was Mr Grier era!). I have huge affection for this airline, it's simplicity and what it rewards a pilot! Glasgow to Benbecula, Kirkwall or Sumburgh I would choose over anything I do now if it came with wide-body Jet Captain salary! Glad to see they are still paying folk monthly for the SF340 type rating, although it was £10k in my day...like all airlines, ignore the tosh..enjoy the ride! I can't imagine the roster has changed much...in other words, not even worth mentioning: some days I just did GLA-ILY-GLA! Others I did GLA-SYY-GLA x 3! Never started early, never finished late! Those searching 'Jets' will enjoy a new challenge and change, but I'd hazard a guess they'll be bored within 6 months! Although I'm not sure Loganair will bring you closer to Kent Michael?! |

Thanks a lot for your comment. All I heard till now (including pm) is surprisingly good apart from pay part but this is rather expected. And yes, that move would certainly bring me closer to Kent, some 1kkm. Besides my home is where my family and I could easily move with them to Scotland. Not so easy with my current workplace. |

Thanks Will work hard in summer, and less hard in winter but still busy. Expect a disruptive summer - as all airlines probably. But ATR's and ERJ's seem to have a fair share of tech issues, throw that in the mix of ground handling staff shortages and wheelchair delays and summer may be tedious. Great management, and even better crew to work with. If you can put up with a regional airline roster and don't expect a long haul life then it's good. If you expect too much, you'll not enjoy it. Best bit is you're usually left to it and get the job done with good colleagues. Some use it as a stepping stone, and others been there for donkeys years. If you want to be based in ABZ and be home almost every night, it's a good enough gig. Of course, less pay than jet operators but it is what it is. |

I heard yearly flying is roughly 500-600hrs, would that be a correct assumption?? I wanted to gauge how doable it might be for me to fly back home to Manchester every so often as they have 3 direct flights from Aberdeen (eg if I had 3 days off in a row then I could make that trip) Cheers |
