I saw an advert on the internet today regarding FO recruitment at VOLOTEA (Capt also if applicable to you). The following is taken from their website....


A320 Senior First Officers

- Minimum 1000 hours on type

Didnt know it was for Volotea. The ad in familiar aviation magazine which must remain nameless, didnt specify which airline it was for. However it did say that initial posts were for 737 with conversion to A320 at a later date.

it is for B717 initially. You have to pay for your own rating. You hava a job only 8 months per year. Rest of the year, you are on your own.

You say it's for B717 initially? 'Apparently' there are multiple vacancies with multiple bases - for 717, 320, Capt/FO... the advert I was asking about was for A320. Here is the link to their website I viewed...

If the advert for 320 pilots was true... surely you wouldn't have to pay for anything if you were already Type Rated. Anyway plenty of other places to consider if the place/pay etc is that bad.

What will happen with their current B717 pilots? Will they have to pay for an A320 rating due to fleet renewal eventually? My guess is that if the company gets new A319/320s, then Airbus Industries should normally train the pilots at no cost , it is normally the deal between aircraft manufaturers and airline companies.

The airline will pay the Airbus type rating to every 717 pilot when they move to the Airbus fleet.

What's the deal with TR cost and roster?

I hear they want to open Vigo as next base.

I read the conditions for CPT and they are very very low.

Basically you would net 5000 euros....

I watched a coverage on youtube about really pissed off passengers stuck in Ajaccio because the flight was cancelled due to a red nav light not working...I know it is a no go MEL item but any happy captain willing to help and give a good image to the company would not ground an aircraft out of base for that :=

What would you do? Acting against the MEL?

You just disregard the red nav light and you go!! Captains are not supposed to be monkeys (unless they are payed peanuts and treated like in a zoo). Use your brain, of course a nav light is a nogo item but if you lose it after take off you will not turn back and do an emergency landing. That's why captains are paid for, be safe and help ops. That's what a good captain would do. Now if there is a flight controls or instruments or powerplant issue, a nogo item has to be taken seriously into consideration.

A nogo item is a nogo item, stop. MELs are used on ground, not inflight, in that case you will use your QRH, abnormal procedures and so on.

A nogo is a nogo, a rest is a rest, a day off is a day off, they might answer you a pfo letter is a pfo letter.

Remember that a "very good" SOPman crashed a MD11 in Halifax a few years ago because he was thinking that a checklist is a checklist. Rip.

Hahahaha, I suggest Mintraman to be very careful with your interviews. Stating that you will deliberately go against the MEL would put you on a very slippery slope..

Don´t worry, you will not be unsafe in a controlled airspace between AJA and NTE at 01:00 LT with a missing red nav light. You'd be surprised to see how many flights every day that are dispatched with "omitted" defects in the techlog. ;)
