Actually I don't want to know the answer to that question because I suspect it would involve giving up some more leave or something equally daft.

Ah blue pilot

Does your comment mean you think BA pilots should be thrown to the mercy of BA? Remind me again, who do you work for?

Those wishing to criticise BA BALPA should possibly bear in mind BA are recruiting more pilots in the next 3 years than Virgin employ!! (we'll try not to mention that Virgin have no effective pilot union - another discussion!)

Compare and/or contrast BA's expanding pilot numbers with any other legacy carrier in the world?

Likely without BALPA? Don't make me laugh!!

I presume you are insinuating that without BALPA, IAG would not have brought BMI into BA? Or maybe that without BALPA, IAG would not have made the decision to purchase the A380 or the 787? Or perhaps it is that without BALPA, EASA would never have put us in a position where BA pilots are currently considerably more productive than the harsher FTLs will allow? Or that without BALPA there would never have been a change to UK age legislation which resulted in pilots being able to work for BA an additional ten years, and so the retirement rate is only just now starting to recover to normal?

The payscales are reviewed periodically, but essentially they remain constant. They are uplifted with any payrises that happen along the way. Any changes to the payscales would be a much bigger issue and tend to happen when an issue has raised it's head to such an extent that either BA or BALPA (though normally BA) feel that the situation is such that it has to change.

Things are acute at the moment with regard to pilot numbers and the small amounts paid for overtime. There is much history to this but BA are desperate to weather the recruitment storm and not to increase the overtime rate. Traditionally BA run light on pilots and expect "martini men" to pick up the inevitable overtime. It is much cheaper to pay a little overtime than to employ another pilot(s). The problem for BA is that they pushed this too far and LH pilots are bouncing off the 900 hour limit and SH pilots don't pick up overtime as they are knackered, hence the recruitment problem. The upshot of all this is that overtime rates may change, but it is a race - will the manning this summer become so acute that to attract more people to do more overtime they have to make it more attractive? or will the recruitment panic deal with the problem so that the lack of bodies issue abates?

This is a typical reason to see a review in the pay system, though in this case not the pay scales.

@ Widebdy.

:= I too worked as an 'agency pilot' and paid foreign tax broadly equivalent to the rates demanded by HMRC. I always filed a UK tax return.

Some, knowingly underpaid tax. Not me. I have a clear conscience about my time with FR. You evidently do not!

Incidentally, I currently pay full UK tax as a higher rate tax payer.

All the best, Sir. :)

End of thread creep.

Widebdy 28th May 2015 10:58

As do the vast majority of BA pilots.

Food down route

What do you guys get down route when in hotels? Is breakfast paid for or do you need to buy something yourself from your duty pay?
Cheers

Hi guys,

What exactly are the figures after tax that guys at BA are making? Myself and my colleagues are looking at other options, we are flying over 900hrs in 365 days , probably about 60% or more is at night and we are really concerned if we can continue this for another 40yrs as we are in our mid twenties. If year 1 is 80k net then our salary of 95k does not seem so great, considering all the added benefits.

Plan on paying for food in hotels yourself, out of your allowances (there are a handful of exceptions that do provide free brecky etc, but not many).

Roll over,

See post 6 for the closest answer!

Post 6 is by far the most accurate on here but not without mistakes I think....
AFAIK....
FPA is £623.72 per month short haul not £715.46
allowances are £3.39 ph not £3.99 ph

Capt pay

Can anyone give a rough idea of command pay on pp1 & pp8 for SH.

Juan Tugoh 4th Jun 2015 08:56

The question is not relevant as we do not take DEP commands. When you move from RHS to LHS you move at the the same paypoint. At the moment there are some very junior guys getting commands at LGW, seniority just shy of 3100, I doubt that this trend will continue though and would expect LGW commands to become more senior again in the next training year - I have no inside info on that, it is just my reading of the situation; others will have different opinions.
Command pay gives you no greater amount of allowances etc, just the uplift in basic, so you can work out the amount from that.

You are quite correct £3.99 is a typo of £3.39...

FPA on my March payslip was £715.46 which is where I got this from. Looking at May your correct again... It is £623.72... Not sure why it's higher in March but I won't complain :ok:

Apologies for these little mistakes but as I said before £4000 net a month will see you in the correct ball park.

one day soon 4th Jun 2015 10:44

BASHLH I think but not 100% sure that it was a one off backdated adjustment covering the rise that was due January the 1st.

As I said your post is by far the most accurate on here

Salary

Apologies if I'm out of line here with this, but could anybody give me an idea of what a BA LH Captain who has been with the company for 25 years with 7 years as a captain would be earning?

Avenger 14th Jun 2015 11:03

He or she earns whatever the divorce lawyers say !

wiggy 14th Jun 2015 11:55

Umm.. I probably could get very close, but given you're so specific with your parameters I'd be very interested in your motives for asking.

Gwinny

Just in case there I you haven't got a hidden agenda for the sake of politeness I will add that as you can now see there is some sensitivity about providing exact amounts, especially on an open forum, and having heard the stories from colleagues I would say that's often for very understandable reasons..

If you are still interested there are plenty of pilot pay type websites that may give a rough idea, but TBH without knowing whether the individual involved is a part timer/trainer/manager/does extra work it's impossible to give a meaningful or in any way accurate answer, since there are too many variables.

BTW given the BA pay point system I think his/her time as a captain is irrelevant, though it might help give some who joined BA around the same time a vague hint as to the identity of the object of your attention...
