Succesfull lobby puts unfair competition by ME airlines on political agenda worldwide
 

Dear colleagues,

Because of an extensive lobby and pressure on the us government by the various American unions we are one step closer to a "fair" worldwide level playing field in the aviation industry.

Let this be an example for the European countries involved. If we don't take action now the future does not look bright for other not state subsidized airlines.

Because of the different findings published discussions are started by politic leaders in a number of countries around the world. Finally this problem is put on the political agenda.

It would be quite interesting to see the global demographic for the airline industry if there truely was a level playing field minus the Chapter 11!!!

This has nothing to do with unfair skies and all to do with "jobs for the boys".
Powerful US Pilot unions will use any means to take jobs from foreign Pilots and they have been clearly very successful; the bulk of European express freight is flown by Americans, there was an attempt made by UPS to takeover TNT which would have resulted in the termination of TNT Pilots and replacement with American Pilots in the heart of Europe. Atlas Air closed their London base forcing numerous European Pilots to be unfairly put on the street, the result of US union pressure. It is time that the rest of the world's pilots fought back against US union pilot greed.

Well done Uncle Sam, not before time. But as has been pointed out, the U.S. hasn't always been committed to fairness; Chapter 11, Fly America, and Open Skies which allow US carriers' short-haul networks on this side of the Atlantic are hardly a level playing field.

But it is nothing compared to the absolute tsumami of wide body jets that make their way toward Europe and America every day. There are more A380s in dubai than universities. Or news paper publishers. Or churches. Or libraries.

I absolutely agree with you Beafis.How the hell can Emirates etc fly soo many flights to the UK per day when the UK airline industry has what one or two flights a day to Dubai?
The problem is that UK unions and pilots got eunichised long ago and the politicians in Westminster and Brussels don't give a :mad: about their own citizens and are on the take Big time.
No doubt someone will come up with some international air flying rights :mad: made by these aforementioned politicians/crooks.

level playing field?....gotta be joking, the US industry is the most unfair practice in history, no country in the world has chapter 11.... preach open skies, but not in the US. Your NRA type of speech won't fool anyone overseas. Why don't you name Sarah Palin spokesperson for Delta? The big European airlines stem from government subsidies as well...
And go and tell Boeing and Airbus to survive without the ME.

The plain and obvious fact is that the ME3 will not stop expanding until they are either made to stop by governments, or until the competition has all been destroyed.

Their main economic advantage doesn't stem from "government subsidies", or cheap fuel, or any perceived advantage of being privately owned by oil trillionaire states.

It comes from those state's willingness to accept and engage in modern day slavery, importing and exploiting their labourers from the third world, who are willing to accept sub human salaries and working conditions that would be completely illegal and unacceptable in any first world civilized country.

Yes the European flag carriers are a bunch of dinosaurs who need a kick up the ass. Yes Chapter 11 bankruptcy is ridiculous. Yes the US carriers have historically benefitted from imposing one sided versions of "open skies" on other nations. Who cares, none of that matters right now, look at the future and look at the big picture you guys.

If we as pilots want our sons and daughters to have any prospect of working anywhere in the entire world except the sandpit in another generation's time, then we should be cheering with delight at any legal action, petition, or manoeuvre to restrict them.

If this is the case, why care so much about WHO flies the shiny jets anywhere in the world?
Surely more new jets sold equates to increased employment globally in the supply chain and maintenance divisions as well? It's not just pilots and cabin crew who get to operate the final product.

The US is negatively impacting aviation, by enforcing rules upon others they not wish to enforce upon themselves, similarly Chapter 11 is the biggest "help" any US company can get to restructure, where in the rest of the world those affected companies would be closed and employment for those involved ceased, the US government offer a way out. This type of benefit cannot be underestimated! Most US carriers would have folded in days gone by had it not been for the Chapter 11 possibility, instead they restructured and started again, time and time again in history...

Before bashing at international carriers and their respective governments (US/EU/UAE), let us play open level playing field and get rid of all state aid, for all carriers, allow all carriers to operate all routes and see who remains standing when the choice is to the consumer, without Chapter 11 assistance and so forth...

Does it really matter what the nature of unfair advantage one nation's or region's airlines (or other businesses) are given over others? Surely the point is that all should have a level playing field so that the can compete fairly, giving both consumers and employees the best? Americans complaining about another country is the height of hypocrisy. Even in the EU, under a supposed harmonised market and authority, where the rules are played more fairly than on a global scale, there is still much inequity on how different nation's companies have to behave. If they were to complain, I'd have a little more sympathy, likewise the Canadians, Kiwis and Aussies, but not the US who have flagrantly abused the Open Skies agreements as well as almost all global trade policies. I doubt there is any market on the planet more protectionist.

The Middle East airlines simply copied Big Agriculture in the US. Protected markets, favourable government regulation, cheap labour and subsidises are enjoyed by American farmers ensuring foreigners can't compete with them, but when another country gives an industry similar advantages and the Americans can't compete they whine like stuck pigs.

Try exporting sugar to the U.S., look at how minimum wages and unions are kept from farm labourers, what about subsidies expected to reach $10 BILLION for 2014 ?

Not really the case for airline employees and airport workers, who are all probably earning more than most Vietnamese airport workers and airline employees.
