Easyjet Pilots based at Belfast
 

Hello everyone!

I live in Belfast and have wanted to be a pilot all my life. I am curious to know what the lifestyle of a Belfast based Easyjet pilot is like?

For example, what routes do you follow? I know there are no European routes direct from Belfast accept Amsterdam and am basically interested in what your typical working week is really like? Rosters etc!

One last thing, I don't suppose there would be any Easyjet pilots out there willing to give me a quick tour of the flightdeck when on the turnaround at Aldergrove! I know this is getting too adventurous but I maight as well try.

It's good to see you taking an interest in aviation and in easyJet, and I hope one day you succeed in you dream. EasyJet are only now starting up a mini-base in BFS and at the moment the pilots are only starting to be based there.

The crews who you see at the airport are from Liverpool, Luton and Edinburgh, who either fly the planes in and straight out again or who night stop in a local hotel for the early morning flights.

You are right that the only international flight is to Amsterdam, but with current expansion, watch this space!!! At the moment we fly from Aldergrove to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool and Luton as well, and our future colleagues from Go, fly to Bristol, East Midlands and Stansted.

I would be very difficult for you to have a flight deck visit, due to the current security restrications. I'm sure you understand the reason for those, and also that the crews are extremely busy on our 20 minute turn-rounds. Sorry not to sound too helpful on this, but the situation may slowly improve for you.

I had a rough idea that the flightdeck visit would not be allowed in the current climate but hopefully things will start to improve in the near future!

I am very interested in Easyjet and have managed to clock up about 25hrs towards my PPL while still at school so hopefully one day i will make it!

Roster wise we work a 6 on 3 off pattern and get 36 days leave a year. I'll give you an idea of some of the trips on a LPL based F/O roster.....

LPL-BFS-GLA -BFS (report 1855, off duty at 2230)
BFS - LPL - AGP - LPL (report 1800, off duty at 0325)
LPL - BCN - LPL - AMS - LPL (report 0845, off duty at 1855)
LPL - AGP - LPL (report 0530, off duty at 1345)
LPL - GVA - LPL - CDG - LPL (forgotten the times!)
LPL - PMI - LPL (0140 report, off duty around 1000)

There are lots more of course but it gives you an dea of what we get up to. Good luck for the future - 25 hours in your logbook before leaving school is pretty good going.

That's a pretty tough roster; does it not cover a seven day period?

It probably does, assuming consecutive days, without days off somewhere in the middle. We have a new roster pattern, normally 6 on and 3 off, but the 3rd day is known as a 'flexi day', which can be used not as a full flying day but to assist with late finishes and early starts, to help out with the programme. It does not then count as a day off.
