Travel Insurance as a Airline pilot
 

Hi all,

I start my A320 Type rating in Nov with EZY, either on Flexi (if UK based) or Permanent contract (if based in the EU).
I am looking to find out what kind of insurances I should expect to take when I start my first Professional Airline job. I already have life insurance as well as loss of medical insurance, but apart from possibly travel insurance I am not sure what else. Was hoping to get some pointers off those who have a lot more experience.

I've been looking into getting an annual travel insurance to cover me whilst I'm both working and on holiday but am unsure whether to look for a specialist or just search for something online (like insureandgo). I'd hope this would cover any holidays I did manage to afford as well as if anything went wrong after diverting or during a turnaround.

Can anyone at EZY shed some light about whether the Flexi or Perm contracts include any kind of insurance if you had to divert or say you got ill during a turnaround away from base?
I know the answer is probably no but you never know. I guess I was thinking I could possibly be covered if I had an annual travel insurance with all the 'hazardous activities' included.

Easyjet cover all employees when working, we get issued with a company insurance card when you join.

Have eJ indicated to you that you won't have to do 12 months as flex-crew before being eligible for permanent employment?

From what I have been told, you will only be on Flexi-Crew contract if you are based in the UK.
Bases abroad come with a Perm contract.

Ah ok, UK based is 12 months flexi as is Germany. You can't work in France as flex (I'm pretty sure) and presume the same for Italy. The transfer lists to european contracts are quite long at the mo so I doubt you'd be offered a euro contract straight away. That would go against the agreed new entrant procedure anyway which stipulates 12 months flex as a "probationary period"… The only caveat to the above is if the company can't crew the 3 new bases with current staff and offer those directly.

Edited to add: I haven't got any extra cover other than what the company provide.

The first batch of guys to start their Types in end of Sept have been offered bases in Porto, Lisbon and Naples.
All of them have permanent contracts. No 12 month flexi-crew for probation period.

On the plus side you get a perm contract from day 1, on the negative they then charge you VAT on the type which is another 8k!

Those are the 3 new bases that are on differing terms! A contract from the start is an improvement though - shame about the VAT...
