Had a couple of questions regarding mainline Lufthansa hiring.

Do they hire pilots outside of their cadet program?

When hiring the non cadet new hires, do they ( or did they) use simulator checks as part of the interview process?

Lufthansa mainline hires so called ready entries if there are no/ not enough cadets out of the lufthansa flight school.
During the selection process I think there is a simulator ride.
Currently there is a waiting list for cadets; the only open positions are with Germanwings.

Hear of another US airline that might hire without a simulator eval.

Part of the justification was the Lufthansa doesn't sim check and uses some computer eval.

My feeling was that was just for the cadets who have plenty of other gates to jump through before even getting near a real mainline transition course.

Had a good friend who worked for Condor, he said that although it is never published anywhere you won't enjoy your life if you can't speak reasonable German.

I Just looked on the website www.lufthansapilot.de. As ready entry you have to take a simulatorscreening.
German and english fluent in writing and reading. Level B2 acc. Goethe Institut.

And don't forget the DLR (GU and FU) exams!

There is a sim check, usually 737 classic after you passed the first step of the DLR and yes, german is a requirement. No exception.

3 Step recruitment: first some computer based tests (called GU), second screening on 737 classic, final step assessment center + final interview (called FU).

Cadets dont have to do those 3 steps.

I would value your mind on a number of questions I have regarding the hiring process.
Firstly, regarding the interviews for cadet applicants, is the format of the interview held in German or English language?

Nearly the whole selection process for cadets is done in german, fluent german is required. As far as i know there is still quite a long waiting list for cadets, no idea though if there are other positions open besides germanwings, heard something about embraer positions with cityline (albeit on the mainline contract).

I received a letter about 2 months ago that I can do the GU (DLR for ready entry) when there is a position available.
Does anyone else received the same letter and how long are you waiting by now? And does anyone know when they start selecting ready entries again?

does anyone know if there's an age limit for those ready entries?. Nothing about it in their web, but I read a german forum where they said there's a """no written rule""""" being 34 maximum age.

First of all, it is quite unlikely that any ready entry pilots will be hired in the next few years, probably for a long time to come with the emerging new structure. There might be openings with the wings construct, but those won't enjoy anything close to the mainline contracts.

Second of all, there is no official age limit, that would be illegal. But something around 34 could be an unofficial limit depending on number of openings.

I can imagine better contracts compared to the rest of Europe, in general, even if it's not like in LH main line. I guess the only way to join the group would be Germanwings, am I right?. Conditions similar to Easyjet?

I'm 32 right now, but once I move back to Europe I'd be 34-35 I guess :(

If you pass the selection process, you will be offered an open position within the LH- mainline contract ( LH shorthaul, Germanwings or LH Cargo). Positions for ready entries open only if there are not enough graduates from the LH pilot school. Currently the waiting list for students out of Bremen is approx. 2 years+.

The plan for the new shorthaul lcc under the Wings Familiy is to operate with Eurowings crew.
The longhaul LCC is planned to be operated with new hired crews via Sunexpress Deutschland.

Far from ideal conditions, but I'd stay think the deals will be better there than compared to other airlines in Europe. :E
