No More Tax Free Contracts In Turkey
 

The turkish revenue is designing an new law to get rid of the taxfree salaries of aircrew.:\ There is no time frame mentioned however in the news article it is mentioned that the revenue is looking at this problem already for a looong time so me thinks happy days are soon to be over....:cool:

So for all the pilots applying for jobs here, you have been warned !!

Who was having tax free salary in Turkey?

Just to make clear what this is all about. All Turkish carriers split the pilots salaries up into two pieces. A basic salary which is the minimum salary by law. That is 250 Euro. The company pays taxes on your behalf on the basic salary. All the rest is flying remuneration which is not subject to tax. The article states that they also want to put tax on the remuneration part. In my opinion this will not directly affect the pilot salaries because taxes in Turkey are always paid by the employer. There is no such thing as a gross and net salary. The only thing that could happen is that they decrease the net salaries to compensate, but then who is going to fly all those airplanes?

Thanx for the clarification as I was not aware that the employer in turkey always pays the tax? I so hope that management wont touch the saalries cuz that would mean relocating again:(

A couple of friends of mine told me they're paying taxes while working with THY.
The good point is that they pay only 5% of their FULL salary. So.. that's not a tax free salary.

Well, 5% is not 0% so lets call it low taxes. If the point is that they're planning to increase the taxes then thats a big :mad:

Coming from Sweden where social + income tax is around 55%, 5% IS tax-free for me :}

Generally in the contracts the pay is referred to as "net salary" so the tax issues would not in the short term affect the salaries. How much tax are they talking about?

When contacted by an agency about the resident SFI jobs as an employee with THY they seemed to suggest tax could be 35%. The pay is €126/hr for sim sessions. They take the p@$s by not paying for briefing & debriefing time; only 4 hrs. So a 7hr day = 4hrs pay. Also they didn't say if the whole lot was taxed. If pilots are getting a back-door brown envelope with 'allowances' written it that would be a real kick in the goolies for the ex-pat SFI's who are being shafted as it is. Does anyone have 1st-hand knowledge of the SFI working practices?

Sorry for the drift but, as you're talking about the SFI, do you know the requirements by THY to become SFI?

Talk to Parc, but THY advertised for Captain SFI's. It is non-flying and you are an employee. Thus, I suspect you need to be at least an SFI already.

Ok, I was just wondering the possibility to upgrade from FO in the 738 to SFI, even if it was only for some sim sessions, building a CV you know...

I see you all over the ME forums for EK, QR etc. If you want to FLY... Stay AWAY from SFI work and stay current. EK won't give a stuff about SFI time if you're swimming in the pool........................................

Yes I'm swimming in EKs pool.

Working as a SFI in THY has nothing to do with EK. I had to apply, assess and accept a FO position in the 737NG fleet at THY just because I am swimming to nowhere in the EKs pool.
If I try to build a CV in THY or wherever working as a SFI is not because I am thinking in EK.
