AVIATION REFUGEE 27th Feb 2012 17:16

Money is crap, people there don't like ex-pats, 320 chief is , 6 years is the minimum to left seat IF (of course)...Life there is as french say, miserable, and Negombo, the place you will live, is .....
Try something else.....

Flyingstig 27th Feb 2012 17:51

Well, there is 2 sides already!
Thanks to both of you!
I was thinking along the lines of P1, actually.
Funnily enough the family had a holiday in Negombo more years than I care to think of ago. Loved it, and always thought the people charming.
Hey Ho!

Good luck - Aviation Refugee!!

Aviation refugee you paint such a sad picture.. ;-)
Why are you still working at Sri Lankan and telling everyone else not to come here..
This I don't undersstand!!!
At all!!!

It's not as bad as he says it is..
I think there are 3-4 of the unhappy ex-pats here who've had a hard time trying to prove to the fact that they're as hot as they think they are..
I just saw a post where I figured out you're from olympic..
That just about explained it all ;-)

Anyway good luck with the plans on leaving Aviation Refugee..
Hope they come true soon.
Where are you planning on going to -Europe? ;-)
Qatar and Etihad have been hiring for years so I really do wonder why you're puuting up with this company?

Anywa I'll still be happy here and will be pretty happy cos all in all when you weigh the pro's and the cons the pro's are more.

Ps.
I agree with you that Negombo is a bit dull.
So I moved to Colombo. It's only 45mins to an hour more driving..
I'm so very happy here..
Maybe you shold visit here!!!

For the guy who asked the question..
It's quite ok here..
Locals are nice.
they try to maintain standards (thas why some people are unhappy here)
salary is so so..
flights are hard sometimes like everywhere else (320 is the hardest fleet - but better than some others I know)
Like i said when you weigh it all it's more good than bad..

Good luck to you as well..

JUST 3-4 Unhappy expats? you really are as delusional as your SOPs !
Out of the 20+ who joined on the Airbus A320 2010, I believe 15+ left with quick succession, because of the abomnibal treatment, and lack of peanuts - The guys that left would feel Pretty justified in their choice to leave, especially after hearing you criticize their standards! That's why they all got jobs in decent companies in more civilized countries??

If you are an A320 Captain in desperate need of a job, then you may have to consider these people , but beware of the gremlin who is in charge of what sweets or coal you get in your contract, they have double standards, you've been warned - you may get promised something in an e-mail before joining but as soon as your in the Gremlins den, you may as well bend over.

Hong Kong

Thank you very much. I want to know how is the work enviroment, how is the roaster? Is everybody being roaster to the long sectors? (London). Is the salary enough to have a nice house, nice life style, on top of that save good money?

Sri Lankan in back with recruitment

Dear all,
I'm thinking to apply as an A340 FO with a commuting contract: anybody has some tip or information to provide me (I read all the previous posts)?
I've asked for the salary package and it's fine with me: does anybody have some information about the environment, the best place to stay for commuters, duration of training and also if FOs are flying both 330s and 340s?
Any other info would be really a lot appreciated!:ok:
Cheers
Andrexxx

Not a totally bad place, contradiction to reputation.
The people of the island are fairly friendly and it's a relaxed environment outside of the company.
Don't know what your experience is, but being totally honest, it won't be much appreciated, you'll be given two bars, lots of sim training to adapt to their sops and be made to feel a bit like a loose end at the beginning. ( training in total I think for my batch was about 2.5 months from start to finish) and you will be on "training pay" which is a lower basic and does not include type rating allowance or housing allowance if my memory serves me well.
The plus side of being a A340 FO is that you get to escape from the small and tedious environment of Negombo, which is where most of expats live. You could live in Colombo, being on long haul. But to be truthful, there isn't much excitement there.
There are SOME extreme little hitlers flying as captains there , bar those three or four tossers and the majority are really quite pleasant. But you will get bored of briefing a full home base arrival on a 4 sector day (320 not 340!!)...yawn....

It isn't everybodies cup of tea, and only TWO from around seventeen who were on my course and the course after are left there.
Maybe they've (UL) have had a kick up the arse since we all left, I don't know..I know a few of us complained with HR about the lack of enticement to upgrade to 330 from 320 etc..

For me, it was a year of exposure to a new culture, new flying environment and I met some excellent fellow expats there, I moved on because I saw it as kind of a dead end unless you stay many years , I didn't want to be there on NON commuting with a wife and kids....

Good luck, PM me for further

Ps: yes you will CCQ and fly MFF after a period of time, maybe a year I think... Nd by the looks of your previous posts, you are Italian, there some Italians there which I could put you in contact with.
