I logged on within an hour and there wasn't even a link to the available sim sessions. 8 sessions you say? All gone within minutes? That's crazy.

It really is the luck of the draw with BA, even once you pass an interview. :confused:

Hardly depressing brian. If you applied in the first place because of PP24 then you can always retract your offer to BA. The finishing salary for an FO is still in excess of £100,000. I'm sure there are many other reasons you applied to BA. It still remains the best flying organisation in the UK, and one of them globally.

PP24 was around when retirement age was 55. Now it's 65. 10 more years in the company. Hence it's quite appropriate to adjust the increments.

If you haven't already, get a licence, then join ryanair or easyJet. The debate between BA and the loco's has been done to death. We all know who comes out on top. I know plenty of ex loco pilots happily flying for BA. I know none, nor have I ever heard of any, who have trended the other way.

How will I live in London? I'm a grown up so I've figured that one out. Didn't take long, you'll grasp it one day. Infact, I've changed my mind, I'll live in Sydney. You can do that in a grown up airline.

Thank god for some common sense. I echo your sentiments entirely.

PP1 at BA is £50,800. PP34 is £113,500 (long haul FO). Add £12,000 to those numbers for flight/duty pay. There's a whole lot of money inbetween. But the paypoints don't tell half the story - it's the "having a life" bit thats actually important. The bidline, the staff travel..the general humane treatment.

Hiwing - if you aren't happy with prospects at BA, toddle off to easy/ryanair. Having worked at the former I can tell you that it bears no comparison whatsoever in terms of lifestyle - and I'm still in the bottom 10% seniority wise. At least now I don't suffer constant roster instability and fatigue.

Oh, and I'm living in london quite comfortably.

Good luck to all those swimming in the pool - I wouldn't think twice when plucked.

Dont forget to factor in the "time value of money" as well Brian, so you need to discount those future cash flows!

And the fact that, if your salary now, allows you to pay off your mortgage 5 years early, thats probably worth £50K too.

As many have pointed out, you join BA for the other reasons...

Flying pay is quite significant in BA. On a good month, as a year 1 F/O short haul, I can take home 4100GBP. Pay is generally between 3600-4000GBP per month. There is extra flying work if you really want it to top up your salary even more.

You never have your roster changed and you get to bid for holidays in the summer. You get treated like a professional.

I would never choose to go back to the world of low cost. :ok:

Why is everyone looking at PP34 for F/Os. Do you not expect to reach the LHS? :confused:

Also Relationships with cabin crew, (or even cabin crew at all) were not my considerations when I got my first airline job and I certainly wouldn't let it affect my choice of employer!

Despite some of the stuff written here, and in the odd other place, relationships with cabin crew are not a significant problem. Persuading your own managers to fight your corner with cabin crew managers can be more difficult, but every company/organisation has its power hungry empire builders....BA is no different.

BA is about choices.

If you join the Minibus fleet at the start of a recruitment 'phase' you will move up the seniority ladder very quickly indeed. The BA/BMI merger won't affect you relative position as BMI will increase the size of the Minibus fleet in line with their pilot numbers.

Once you are in the position to have a bit of bidding seniority then you can tailor BA to your requirments.

Want long trips and get to see where you are going and have a bit of time to look at the city? No problem.

Want to run it like EZY and have a multitude of day trips? No problem either.

Want to jet off around the world and see some of the most fantastic cities going? Off to Long hHaul you go.

Want a command as quickly as possible? If that floats your boat go got Gatwick or just wait it out on the Minibus. The projected expansion (circa 2014 if rumours be believed) should see time to command come rapidly down.

BA provide some of the best hotels in the world to stay in, the transport is always there, the HOST system provides you with local currency at a highly preferential rate and there is a good (not perfect) system for coping with downroute delays. A health care system that will sort you out anywhere in the world and 24/7 backup from the company.

In all the years I've been in BA I ave very rarely felt 'let down' whilst operating and generally have felt that whatever decisions I make/have made have been fully supported by the company.

It's not for everyone but, for me, it is far better than any previous employer.
