Airphil express low time requirement

hey, have you heard that airphil express is now seeking for an airbus a320 first officer until december 19, 2011, they only requires a CPL, IR, 1st class med cert,
bs degree and a flying hours of 200 hours only, o i need to take F.O.T. training for this?

captbisdak 10th Nov 2011 22:46

@AngeloCavite:

Where did you get this info? I heard differently a few months back but maybe things have changed and they could be getting short on pilots?

BTW, this might be better placed at the SE forum.

Sign of the Times?

Lowered minimums seem to suggest their difficulty in hiring?

AngeloCavite 17th Nov 2011 01:54

hoping

i am a low timer pilot and this is a very good news for me:D, i am now taking my IR lesson now, but i am still confused about this info:confused:, some of my senior pilots told me that i need to pay for my own training so the company will hire me. what do you think for this one? is it for work or another expenses?:ugh:

not at all, what they want is sell a training probably. I am sure they will propose t/r + line training.maybe a MPL with one of their training providers in the philippine.
Maybe a school is behind this set up ;)

this industry has stopped to pay their copilot since copilots pay them to fly!
no need to rush.

bananaman2 18th Nov 2011 06:59

The training is with Clark Aviation and all self-funded by the pilot (31k USD). So the airline dosen't spend a penny and Clark Aviation make money out of the regular supply of FOs.

My understanding is that, Airphil are desperately short of FOs and are 'not really' hiring expats (they are hiring a few with considerable experience on Type in a similar way to Cebu). They cannot get enough experienced local pilots to fill their needs (they have multiple aircraft on order), so are having to resort to cadets.

captbisdak 18th Nov 2011 11:21

I doubt if this is just a money-for-training ploy. The fact is that FO jobs are for locals only as expats can only be hired as stop gap for a max. 6 months + 6 months extension. With so many jobs in the region, the locals tend to go overseas (after getting the magic no. of 500hrs on type) where the FO pay is more than what Airphil pays their capts. Also, the local output of flight schools is below the demand by all local airlines combined.

I also heard that they are sending their recent recruits to TR outfits overseas since Cebpac has seem to have cornered Alpha Aviation's A320 sims.

benole 18th Nov 2011 13:59

so is it a good idea to apply there as a low time pilot?:suspect:

AngeloCavite 18th Nov 2011 14:04

ayun lang

i hope this not a money-for-training ploy. i really want to try this, for a low timer pilot just like me, this is an opportunity for us. but this is very confusing:hmm:

Skynrd 18th Nov 2011 16:14

Apply is always a good idea...at least it is for free :}

The offer is legit, but...

[Notice: Hi guys, just a quick edit. The following is legit, but was not written by me. It is a response by one of my flight instructors, he just posted it using my profile, and neglected to mention it. The offer's still legit though..]

You do indeed have to pay your own way through the A320 FOTT.

I know this for a fact, because I plan on doing it myself.

I am a local CPL holder, 250+ hours total time, just completed my IR flight time, waiting for my exam permit at CAAP so I can take the IR exam and checkride. No multi-engine rating is required BTW.

I've been in email contact with both Flight Ops at Airphil Express, and Sales & Marketing at ClarkAv, and they've both confirmed the deal. Here's how it goes:

1. Pilots with 200 hrs CPL/IR will be interviewed and undergo the complete prehiring process of Airphil.
2. Memorandum of understanding will be issued to pilot by Airphil as a commitment that we will hire you upon your completion of the A320 FOTT course.
3. Proceed to a CAAP approved school of your choice.
4. After completion of course, return to Airphil for hiring and completion of additional ground school and line training.
5. You will receive training allowance during line training.

Normally, ClarkAv does not accept applicants with less than 300hrs, but they will accept 200+ if you have a MOU or other aggreement with an airline. The course tuition fee recently went up a bit, from USD32,500 to USD33,150, made in two payments. Oh, and payments to ClarkAv are in US Dollars. But if you have an MOU with AirPhil you get a discount of USD1,500 so it comes down to USD31,650.

The A320 FOTT takes between 3-4mos to complete, while AirPhil line training takes another 3os I believe, though i'm not sure on that part.

Finally, I can confirm that the final FFS training for the FOTT is conducted abroad, 16days or so, travel and accommodations covered by ClarkAv. I'm not sure, but I believe the location abroad depends on availability of simulators, so it may change at times. Right now they send their A320 trainees to Lyons, France.

I was concerned it might be a scam as well, and then I found out another pilot from the school I attended had also gone through with it, and has just recently completed the line training at AirPhil.

I hope this helps answer your questions though.

I wonder how this works if you are a low time pilot (local btw) but with a newly acquired FAA A320 TR?

bananaman2 7th Dec 2011 23:37

Captbisdak

Need to validate the 320 onto a CAAP licence and depends on whther they regard you as Cadet or Direct Entry.

You were right......

captbisdak 8th Dec 2011 10:15

@bananaman2:

Thanks for your reply. By validation do u mean fly 10hrs A320 sim? I validated my foreign licenses recently and they seem to have a magic number of 10hrs in (locally registered) same a/c type in order to be validated for each rating.

bananaman2 8th Dec 2011 23:17

Captbisdak

Think that's one for CAAP i'm afraid. I know of what i've heard... but from what I gather, conversion/validation terms are specific to the individual. For instance if you joined Cebu on the 320 (they only hire current Type Rated folk with time on Type), I think you can go straight to the simcheck.

The most important thing is to demonstrate competency and safe standards by passing the checkride whatever aircraft you're in.

Thanks for your reply. I might just pop in at CAAP next time I'm in Manila.

Cheers!
