F/O or CPT?

B737Dude 16th May 2012 22:23

I've got turned down 3 times unfortunately due to my Military status in Turkey! Is there anyway of getting out of National Service? I've lived all my life in the UK but because I haven't worked more than 3 years and paid tax I can't pay off the €10,000 :/

Thanks

aozc 17th May 2012 14:45

I thınk ıts possıble to hand ın your cıtızenshıp somehow but that would probably cause problems durıng the ıntervıew and alot of hassle wıth workıng permıts. For how many months do you have to do the servıce?

B737Dude 17th May 2012 20:48

The reason sun express is giving me the opportunity is because I'm a Turkish Citizen! It's a 15 month service unless I work here full time in the UK for 3 years paying tax and national insurance to be eligible to pay off the national serivice which is €10,000! Otherwise wait for RYR! But they have slowed down the recruitment as there is no more expansion! So it could be a veryyyy long wait :/

canyol 18th May 2012 06:22

I've been invited to sim assesment for June. They have also mentioned available bases are Gaziantep, Diyarbakir and Elazig at the moment.

Akrep 18th May 2012 06:24

Some tips: the turkish state doesn't want you to prove you are currently working for 3 years or 1000 something days, past employment is also accepted.

But to answer your question the only way out is being rejected for service due to health issues. :/ god forbeit that.

despegue 18th May 2012 07:19

Just pay a doctor to declare you medically unfit...happens everywhere so i am absolutely sure that there are ways to do so.
Although i am against this kind of evading your responsability, i do realise that the military duty is a problem for a lot of young people that have grown up abroad.
In Russia for example, the service can really break a young man. Better to pay and get your unfit papers.

B737Dude 18th May 2012 17:10

I've thought about declaring my self unfit but then my Class one Medical is at risk and also the airline wants to see the paper work signed off by the local military office! Which it says due to medical reason then I turns back against me!!

I offer you a simple solution. . . . .don't get involved with Turkish companies.

Sorry if I offend you (as you are Turkish) but I heard too many horror stories from colleagues employed previously by Turkish companies, & my short time employed by one, was not exactly trouble-free either.

aozc 18th May 2012 19:58

What's the optıon then?

Take part ın the Ryanaır lottery where 7000 cvs are ın the database or pull your pantalones down at norwegıan and practıce the oldest professıon known to man kınd? (was usually done by some women untıl lately)

SXS ıs quıte a good outfıt ıf you can move there but everyone wıll not lıke ıt.

Military Status...there are a few FOs that are still to meet this obligation, they can wait until after their 3 year contract is up to do this, some plan to work abroad for a few years, some plan to pay and get a reduced military obligation of 6 weeks.
The last " bulk intake" was from Stella Flight Academy, but now there are some new Turkish FOs as well.
Failure/ rejection rates at interview and sim are still high.
Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya bases are not available now, even for DECs. There are about 2 FOs a month in the upgrade program and 8 are just about to finish Upgrades now at the SAW/ABD/AYT bases. Good start to a flying career for FOs if you can get in..

working for free

Hi guys,

This is the system (policy) of SXS In Turkey.
You pay 30.000 euro's for the type-rating.(normaly type-rating costs 19.000 euro's profit SXS 11.000 euro's)
You get 1 Year contract.
After 1 year you will be kicked out because there are other guys who are waiting to pay fly for free.
You have earned 25.000 euro' s in 1 year.
Profit SXS 5.000 euro's,+11.000 euro's from the type-rating total profit SXS 16.000 euro's
Who is smart you or SXS?????

Kranich 20th Nov 2013 16:17

SXS needs pilots

SXS is growing and looking for pilots, both F/Os and Captains. Even with the DGCA's ambition to reduce the number of foreign F/Os SXS has kept all of them (exception: Some FOs had the option to go directly to THY) and will employ even more flight school graduates.
I am not an expert here but until now I have heard of nobody being fired after 1 year just based on some policy - as I said, they need even more pilots (this excludes possible terminations of contract due to low performance - I don't know of any such case but maybe there are some).
My personal impression is that flight school graduates see it as a good investment to pay for their type rating and then fly at least 500, most probably many more hours at SXS on an aircraft that is one of the most popular on the globe. Their alternative is either going to Indonesia or waiting for aviation in Europe to recover from the economic crisis.
After some years, yes, SXS may manage to replace those foreign F/Os with locals. But then the pilots leaving will have a good experience and nice reference on their CVs to continue their careers at other airlines which would have never given them a chance as fresh graduates.

Flaps 35, your figures are well off the mark… The NL guys that joined earlier that could not go to Indonesia have all had their contracts extended. The type rating costs includes line training sectors and all company conversion courses, most of the guys now have 500 hrs plus and will have close to 1500 on Type after the contract extension… i.e they are very employable. Most type ratings in Europe do not include base training and line sectors. With overtime they are earning at least 50K euros net in a year..

Sadly, the most employable guys are those with zero hours and deep pockets.

Did any of you past the selection this year (2013) and did anybody started working?
I passed selection in may and no job jet.

F/O or DEC?

Kirks gusset 26th Nov 2013 14:53

According to the "Rumours", which are usually correct! about 48 new FOs will start over the next few months, mostly from Stella NL. About 35 FOs will transfer from AYT base to SAW, mostly Dutch guys, some will wait until after the upgrade to come. Contracts are " one year" but the crew will not be able to go to THY mainline after the contract, and given fleet expansion, the contracts will almost certainly be extended ( according to performance etc etc). There is a debate about licence issues at the moment, one school favours Turkish DGCA the other EASA retention.. as with THY mainline the big feet are kicking towards DGCA licence. Possibly after the type rating is endorsed they may request conversion to lower on-going training and checking costs. In the end, it really comes down to getting hours, getting paid and then looking at 3/4 years ahead. Even in CX you fly on HK CAD ticket not JAR/EASA, the old system under JAR allowing more than one " State of issue" is now gone, but the option to opt back to your " mother state" is always there if the carrier changes.
