Direct Entry Captains at Emirates

Hearing rumours that EK will open DEC in November time later this year, imagine their SFO's wouldn't love that idea.

Any truth to the rumour?

Aussie 1st May 2011 11:57

Guess ya find out in November... :)

dustyprops 1st May 2011 12:48

I love it! What's it been now since the last "DEC at EK" rumour?

You coming over then?

Man Flex 37.5 1st May 2011 13:45

Got a call from them a few days ago offering me an interview for an F/O position, apparently they will not be taking DECs at all!

superced 1st May 2011 14:07

interview last week :

15 people on the first day , 3 at the end . 20% passed.

Why is everyone so keen to join Emirates?Over-rated and a soul-destroying place to live and work.A sandpit is a sandpit however you dress it up.Far more interesting places to live and work as an expat if not quite so financially stable.

a soul-destroying place to live
Which part of your soul was destroyed?

The UAE may a life style that some may enjoy and some may feel imposing.

Before applying, be it with Emirates, FLYDubai, Etihad, or Qatar, one must do comprehensive research as to see if UAE is a viable alternative to their current situation be it at home or at a different place on the planet.

Potential possible disappointment(s) can be avoided by one doing their homework... especially when young families are involved.

Jobs in the region will still be there after research has been completed and issues have been discussed with family members.

Over my 21 years as an expat in different parts of the world, I’ve heard the typical “Gee had I known that…..” or I would have never come here had I known…” So again, don’t disrupt your personal and family life because of lack of information before accepting the job without understanding and complete disclosure to your loved ones.

Where ever you go, expat support networks can help to buffer and temper the transition to the new life style, and help educate new individuals of the dos and don’ts within the region.

Given the alternatives there are not many choices out there, especially for First Officers.

Good luck to one and all.

Qatar
21 years an expat and you don't know Qatar isn't part of the UAE?

Over my 21 years as an expat in different parts of the world,
Try reading it properly.

captjns 5th May 2011 13:56

For the Cliterals... I should have mentioned that Qatar is not part of the UAE... please forgive me.:O It was more of a discussion of working for carriers within the region.

Oops... I was in a rush and submitted without proof reading. Hey... was my spelling OK?

With the numerous hotels I layover, I'm lucky to find the W/C without banging into walls;).

No sweat captjns,

Just giving your chain a mild yank!!

earlyNFF 7th May 2011 20:07

Once they open up a new division (B748F), they might look for some DEC
(just a guess)

Jes#s Captjns or what ever your nom de plume is, your post helps me go to sleep. Tell the truth, money makes the world go around. Retirement from such a demanding profession demands that pilots earn top dollar till age 55/60/65 (if you are that silly). EK/BA/CX/etc/etc are not paying the money. Until young chaps wake up and realize they are being exploited by hard nosed accountants for their enthusiasm to 'touch the stars' then what hope is there for this 'job'.
