UK Security Pass Issues brought to light by Zenon 737 gig

An ad just up on flightglobal.com by Zenon offers 737 Summer contract for a UK operator, Jet2 again methinks.

In the ad it states . . . Due to new UK CAA regulations you are required to have only worked within Europe for the last 5 years ? ? ? W.T.F ? ? ?

Have they not considered that I could have gone off on an Al Qaeda terrorism course during annual leave/in the time between European contracts, or even done an evening study course in a North London mosque.

As I said WT.F. will they come up with next, presumably in the name of security ? ? :D

Bad news, if such a regulation does indeed exist, for anyone looking to come back from the sandpit/ Africa wherever.
Is this serious, or just some :mad: from Zenon/Jet2 ?

New regulation requires you to give CR checks for EVERY country you have stayed in for more than one month within the last 5 years.

Jet2 obviously want to avoid all the hassel of trying to actually fulfill such a stupid regulation that has been put in place for the sake of 6 months employment.

Please tell me how would one get a CR check if you worked as a bush pilot in Africa or in a country where CR check dont happen????:ugh:

ahahahah.....:D

Airside pass

@Punk,

The requirement is CRC check for any country that you have been resident in for 6 months or more........

Its not Jet2 being awkward, its BAA being in my opinion over cautious.

BAA - Bumbling Autocratic A**holes

Its time BALPA and/or a group of pilots took these officious, rubber-gloved, soiled underwear inspecting, polyester uniformed, rent-a-sniffs to the European Court. There have been instances where BAA have denied an airport pass, with no right of appeal, and the individual terminated within days after being hired by the respective UK airline. BAA will tell you they are acting on UK Government directives. Therefore, the government must take some blame for allowing BAA to run amok with the legislation.
On a daily basis at any UK major airport, you will see hundreds of foreign flight crew pass through security posts. BAA have not conducted background checks on any of these individuals, yet they allow them to pass through restricted airport security posts with nothing more than a foreign airline identification badge (some as convincing as the top of a cereal box).
It should not be left to BAA to deny a person the right to earn a living simply because BAA are unable to confirm employment by an airline long since out of business or in some far corner of the world, where the pilot may have walked off the job due to various breaches of contract. If a pilot is recruited by a UK airline and employment references are checked by that airline, and they provide a current UK police no criminal record certificate, that should be the end of it. BAA have confirmed on numerous occasions that they are incompetent to perform security checks in any event.

Surely this can be considered a barrier to gaining employment?? If so is that not against European human rights legislation with regards to employment and the right to move? It's clear now that the UK no longer wants an aviation industry. It's sad that it has turned out like this.

punk666 18th Mar 2011 05:53

Its pathetic!! How is one supposed to get a criminal record check if you worked as bush pilot in africa for example, where hardly anyone speaks english and on top of that the company dont require a CRC done???

Before you start wailing and moaning wo is me . I'm in this position at the moment. There is no way my current employer will give the info required because They don't give a f....k! After some phone calls to DFT the word is that all you need to do is swear a statement in front of a solicitor that is witnessed by some respectable person!!! Issue that to the required authorities and tell them they have to accept it because it's the DFT rules that they are following

Daysleeper 18th Mar 2011 19:24

Issue that to the required authorities and tell them they have to accept it because it's the DFT rules
And watch them laugh and say they can apply any standards they like above the DfT minimum...:{

Tommy Tilt 19th Mar 2011 18:50

DfT website link........

Please view the DfT website link below for an explanation on the NEW rule:

Overseas criminal record checks

As stated on the DfT website:

"In exceptional case cases such as official sources do not exist or they are unable to supply the individual with a certificate, the individual should be requested to provide:
•a sworn oath;
•a character reference from a suitable referee; and
•evidence as to why it is not possible to obtain the criminal record certificate. This may be because a government’s administration has collapsed to a point where no credible official sources of information exist, or there is a risk to the individual’s personal safety if they make contact with that country.
The information provided should be checked for accuracy and authenticity"

However, the Bumbling Autocratic A**holes (BAA) have the discretion to accept or refuse the above. BAA only have to comply with Government MINIMUM requirements. They can INCREASE requirments to whatever they desire.

Its time BALPA got involved in this nonsense!

Eff Oh 7th Apr 2011 12:14

What if you are a former BAA pass holder and left the UK for a few years. Does this have no bearing on them issuing a pass if you cannot get a CRC?? What if you cannot get a reference or a police cert from the country you were in?? Are BAA then sasying that you have no right to a pass (and therefore no right to work in the UK??) Should we put up with this as UK citizens?
