Cityjet 318's

Any truth to the rumour that Cityjet are getting Air France's Airbus318's due to their restructuring?
Can't see it happening personally but would consider going back to work for them if thats the case.
Anyone heard anything or know if they would need to recruit externally again?

What is the incremental seating on an A318 vs. the Avro? What about incremental hourly operating costs? How about range difference at full load? I guess those factors could play into any decisions. We know an A318 can certainly fit on the apron at LCY - sounds plausible.

Personally, I'd like to see more Airbus aircraft at LCY... Anyone else hear or confirm this rumour?

wind check 6th Dec 2010 09:48

Cityjet will never ever have any airbus. What is true is that Dash8 Q400 or ATR76 might replace the Avro in the future.

Butterkist 6th Dec 2010 12:46

Could you imagine the chaos if Cityjet got Airbuses!! The training department screwed things up big time just to transfer everyone onto the RJ from the 146!! You think that those bunch of incompetents could organise us to fly real airplanes!!

No.. this company is holding on by its fingernails just operating the OOrj.

RJ100 6th Dec 2010 13:09

LCY could not cope with a larger number of A318 ops at LCY. There are only 4 stands at the moment that can fit an A318, plus the only exit of the RWY suitable for that aircraft is D. It would serverly limit the number of operations per hour especially during peak hours.

bigwullie 7th Dec 2010 12:20

Understand it's 2 318's to be based in Edinburgh and operating through LCY timed to avoid the Big BA Airbuses
Seems they are getting too good a deal on them to refuse
Suppesed to be happening early Summer

DutchBird-757 7th Dec 2010 20:05

However sweet the deal, it's not gonna happen IMHO. It makes no sense at all. WX is getting hammered on the EDI-LCY route and BA found the A318 too heavy/uneconomical for it's own operation compared to the E-Jet/CRJ. If they then also try to avoid the BA 318 timings they will miss the peak LCY inbound times for sure, making again, no sense.

Can you imagine an A318 in the WX scheme! (sorry but that's the spotter in me talking...)

ALFRED 10th Dec 2010 12:36

it makes so little sense and looks so against the odds that I wouldn't be surprised if they go on that waych' :}

ATP_Al 10th Dec 2010 14:20

There's a few A318s parked up at the moment, and they're not exactly easy to remarket to new owners. Maybe WX got offered a deal they couldn't refuse:

Mexicana's suspension creates remarketing challenges

To fly no more

A318 at City Jet? You've gotta be having a giraffe lads! I'll believe it when I see it.

Telstar 10th Dec 2010 20:15

Isn't there a scope clause that prevents Cityjet from operating the A318? I think this came up before.

bigwullie 11th Dec 2010 13:05

Believe the deal on the aircraft is to be signed on Jan 14th LCY negotiations already done.

lfrk 14th Dec 2010 17:51

That's just hilarious....and why not the space shuttle on the lcy-ory !!

elfietro 16th Dec 2010 12:56

Hello BigWullie,

Is it possible for you to mention your sources where you heard or read this?
Since it seems to me very unlikly.

Thanks.

lfrk 29th Dec 2010 12:33

apparantly announcement on the 12th of January??
anybody aware of what will be announce, new routes?

Saab0409 29th Dec 2010 12:38

Maybe the announcement of the 2(?) a318s to be stationed somewhere. Or maybe a fleetwide replacement for Cityjet. Maybe the complete merger of VLM with Cityjet? Who knows? Let the betting begin!

Kidkoala 4th Jan 2011 14:49

Avianca (Colombia) already took over all A318 previously owned by Mexicana !

Telstar 4th Jan 2011 15:16

Same question again! As I recall there was a block on aircraft fitted with a certain number of seats that can be used at a subsidiary of Air France. Did this not apply to the 318s?

Kidkoala 4th Jan 2011 16:21

The maximum number of seats that can be sold is 100 ... on the Air France Network
