Ryanair - Mass Layoff
Sorry to deliver the bad news... but all of us that have the clause in our contract about being laid off in the event of 'excess capacity'...
If the ash cloud continues into next week...O'leary plans to lay off everyone he can...no revenue...we're not needed...clause also states...we can't work for anyone else.. Brilliant  |
Sad news....but I can't believe the "can't work for anyone else" clause is enforcable. I have seen this fail many times, it falls foul of EU anti-competitive legislation.
|
I wonder what the BA strikers are thinking?
|
Presumably this layoff clause is for the 'employed' crews rather than brookfield?
|

At the moment the company layoff's an employee, no rule about competition or similar applies. You can look immediately to work for another company in the same branch.
|
I understand this is in the FR contracts, however i cant see this actually happening personally.
Seems more like the ryanair rumour mill in full turn, which is understandable. The moment the wind shifts and conditions become more suitable, crews will be flying their arses off trying to pick up the pieces of millions of stranded passengers that STILL need to reach their destinations. If i was MOL then i would certainly cut pay, completely understandable. However it would be a logistical nightmare laying off lots and lots of people and then re-hiring them. |
Lay offs
Stop talking rubbish. Any excuse to knock Ryanair there is no mention of lay offs or anything close ( Iam a contracted LTC ) The company is much too busy trying to run the Airline and cope with scores of displaced aircraft and many hundreds of displaced crew. Where did you hear such a load of cobblers or did you just make it up?
|
Creating rumors if you ask me.
I do not believe this is on RYR's priority list. I would not believe any company would do this, especially flag carriers. O, wait SAS paves way for lay-offs due to ash - The Local |
Redline
what are you talking about ...
This is not happening, summer season about to go into full swing and I think you will find all the cabin crew training classes are full. Why dont you tell us where you heard this crock of . |
FR layoffs
As a relative junior 1st officer at FR I am concerned, but I have a feeling we'll get through this.
What really sickens me is that KLM is looking for Dutch government support. Just read it on Dutch teletext. Who's there for FR when the **** hits the fan? Why in heaven's name does KLM not start with doing the right thing and cut down on their excess salaries throughout the company? What happened to Open Skies and minimization of government intervention? |
What the hell is wrong with KLM getting Dutch help? I would hope the UK airlines would get help from the new UK Govt and RYR help from the Eire Govt.
|
Priam's Daughter at it again.....
Ignore him. Redline is a jackass Cassandra who has been trying to talk himself into Fly Dubai for months. For God's sake, man, GO, and stop spreading unsubstantiated bull**** here. Mass lay offs, my hairy arse. If anything, we'll need even more people after the dust settles to get things back to normal and then pick up the slack created by those lower on the food chain who don't survive. Believe me, they're out there, but FR isn't one of them.
If you want to worry about something, forget volcanic ash and peak oil. Worry about water. Without that, we're all screwed. |
Yer I get it, I just took a look at at redline past posts
there is alot on there about Ryanair laying people off looks to me like a basher...:ouch:... |
Cassandra and the bouncing balls.
Ask him what he thinks about PB, MOL and his decision to leave Easyjet. One of the terminally aggrieved brigade, I fear. He hates BLAPA too, though, so he can't be all bad.

What happened to Open Skies and minimization of government intervention? What do people from other airlines think of a relatively junior 1st officer at FR telling another airline to cut salaries? Shouldn't he/she be aspiring to get into a higher paying airline? Incidentally, in fairness to some of the FR posters here, if the OP is making up stories about layoffs, then that is just wrong. |

Calm down plebeian its ok.
A disruption of any kind is most welcome by management as it gives them an excuse to further deteriorate remuneration packages and bleat how they can offer cheap fares to Jo public. It looks like the low cost model is running out of steam as it is not sustainable based on cheap fares alone. There are no other ways to screw passengers with hidden charges so then one must turn to their staff. Far cry from the original model still used at Southwest don't you think? As for the BA strikers, at least they stood up to an ill informed Irishman hell bent on killing a brand using the GFC as an excuse and told him exactly what they really think of his short man syndrome style of management. How about you RYR lot, isn't it about time you did something similar instead of just resorting to the usual PPRUNE twaddle? Like the Irish economy, the irish way of offering air travel on the cheap is near to bursting its bubble too. Broke economy broke pax and any excuse to keep the fallacy alive! |
CNN reported the whole airline grounded over the weekend...
|
Soullimbo, you need to shut up mate. There's been enough salary slashing in this industry to date, to suggest more is ridiculous. You sure you fly?
