Crisis? Ok Guys ....

Guys and Girls
When I am applying for a job, the answer is : "We are overwhelmed by answers, and after first screening we have to....". Just to have an idea, how many of us are unemployed? I am 41, A320 Captain 10.000 hours, unemployed. Who else?
Cheers

Sorry to hear that you are unemployed. There is a lot of that around. However there are jobs here and there. Problem is that unscrupulous employers and agencies seem to take advantage of the situation and offer substandard terms and conditions. What it is worth, I would rather stay home than take a job where I end up paying to work.

Still if you look around. China is still offering opportunities as is India, Middle East and occational job in Europe. Don't despair there is light at the end of the tunnel, I hope.

Your problem is that you are too qualified or else you are on the wrong aeroplane. This is nothing new when it comes to finding a new job. Can you just imagine an existing airline offering you a job as a direct-entry captain when they already have many senior first officers who have been with the company for many years?

I have been in this situation a couple of times in the past. You simply cannot afford to be the most junior pilot in an existing company at your age (even if it is BA).

What you need to do is to find a new start-up company who need your experience right at the beginning and who want you with your experience as a captain.

I managed to do this (after a couple of false starts) and ended up with a good financial result when I retired and I never ever had to go back into the right seat.

There were times that it wasn't easy but I achieved two huge ambitions in my life; I never had to work in the Kingdom and I never had to work for BA.

I'll trade you a few thousand hours in a 146 for a few hundred in an Airbus!

Hey, at least you're getting some kind of reply... that's more than many can say.
