Hi,

Could anyone who has recently joined BA on Jumbo/Triple pass on how many weekends they see please? I understand blind lines are the norm, how do weekends get spread about on them?

i believe weekends are spread equally and average 4 per month. :E
At the bottom of every list you can expect to work almost every weekend or part-there of.

As a newhire 777 FO at BA, how many landing can you expect per month (average) during first year? I guess depends on length of flight with cruise pilots. Also, are most of your flights to East Coast USA or do you get some variety to Middle East and Asia?

No weekends!
 

You will work every weekend apart from when you are on leave. When taken separately (ie.1 week blocks instead of 2 week blocks), you can expect to get 12 weekends off per year minimum. Weekend working will continue until you are 20% off the bottom of the seniority list. You can then get the odd extra weekend off and the further up the list you go, the more weekends you can get off.

When you DO get a weekend off, you are also liable to be ASSIGNED overtime work which you have no choice to decline (unless you can claim that your children will be left home alone).

Why would anyone want a week end off! It is much nicer to be off during the week when everyone else is at work!:)

because for some it is the only days they can spend time with their children/see their mates who do 9-5. etc...

Can't answer for now. Joined about almost 3 years ago on 777 and did one blindline before remaining on triplines. Could get at least a couple of Sat or Sun off an sometimes a weekend. Current month 3 years later with about 100 junior have 3.5 weekends off.

Its not that bad and gets better with continued recruitment onto the fleet.

When I last looked the 777 has 16 3xpilot destinations (so 50% chance of a landing) and 12 2xpilot destinations (so 1 landing). Also have 4 destinations with a shuttle flight eg LGW-BGI-POS-BGI-LHR, so 2x landings and 2 destinations that alternate between 2 pilots and 3 pilots between summer and winter.

And just to be complete one destination with 4 pilots and 1 landing each (because 2 pilots get to fly on to another destination and back)

Also not all destinations are served every day (some of the 3 pilot trips) and some destinations are served several times a day (mostly 2 pilot trips but the odd 3 pilot trip)

Conclusion= landings are not on issue

Hello all!

I would not like to appear as not having already had a look at the other threads, but having just got a job in a continental europe regional carrier, would really appreciate info on the following:

-Is there two different ways to join BA, i.e. one for short and another one for long haul?

-If this is the case, what h minima should one have to be competitive to join the long haul operation?

There's one process for all DEPs. Fleet allocation is done after you've passed selection. LH requires a full ATPL with 2000 jet time, otherwise it is the SH fleet.

I've got all my weekends off for the first month but I fink it's cos I'm training.
(trainers like their weekends off)

I think Mr Ripley might be in recruitment because his description of weekends off is worthy of the Booker Prize.
