At which Ryanair base will you work the hardest?
 
Pretty simple question, but would it be far to say that I'd be doing a lot more hours a year (thus more pay, although a much less comfortable lifestyle) at the likes of STN or DUB than I would at say BOU, LTN or EDI?

Please don't let this degrade into another Ryanair bashing thread. I've already made my choice based on my situation and my desire to work with a minimal gap between finishing my CPL/IR and starting line flying and I realise I am extremely fortunate to have been able to get the funding required to do so. My focus now is on getting as many hours as possible and to gain more experience and professionalism.

It's difficult to say which base you'd work hardest at. You tend to work more when you've got less than 500 JAR25 hours as you're cheaper to the company.

At LTN I believe FOs are getting around 60-70 hrs a month, at BRS we were getting close to 100 in Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar but it's dropped to around 75 or 80 now as more FOs have arrived. STN colleagues are getting around 70. In the summer this is likely to pick up.

Generally new bases that open offer the best way of racking up hours initially as they are often under-crewed for the first few months.

If you're floating base you're v.likely to hit the 900 hours in a year. Most other FOs I know who have a fixed base are getting around 800 to 850 a year. In my first year at RYR I flew 800, and that was split between three bases, with BRS being the busiest.

You also have to consider the ease of getting in and out of work.

At any large airport it will take you longer: the smaller the airport, not the size of the base, the easier it is to get in to work.

You also have to consider that you probably won't get any of the bases you ask for....

Whichever base you get you will work pretty close to your annual limit.

Captain Yonder,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from your post I interpret that you are still in training for your CPL/IR?

If so, I would focus your energies on that for the time being, afterwhich you still have to secure the job. Contrary to what people may think, Ryanair do not take on everyone they interview.

The reality of basing & flying hours etc. mentioned above is that you will be based where they need you (you will be on a Brookfield contract) but more likely based at STN or DUB. Many of the current FO's (who are not from the UK) based at STN and DUB would no doubt swap their Grandmothers' for ALC, VLC or BGY. Ultimately, take what's offered and work from there. The hours even out over the year, or 11 months as mentioned.

Also, during line training you can and probably will be sent all over the network (at your expense). Only when you finish line training and become Brookfield do you get your permanent base.

They dont go all over the place as a general rule line training, i did only east midlands, my crew buddy did stansted and liverpool another guy did it only in milan, his crew buddy did it all in girona!

and no one got offered stansted or dublin, we do have more than one base neededing pilots.
