Easy and Living in Bishop´s Stortford

I will be joining Easy Soon Stansted Base. I am trying to figure out if a car is needed, or public transportation will do it when working lates and earlies.

Also looking for a 2 bedroom appartment fully furnished not to far from the station.

Spent 3 yrs based there and only 1 mans opinion but Iwould say get a car.

As a danish person, you are used to a functioning public transport system.

But in the UK, it is too unreliable and expensive to be considered an option. Unless you live right next to the station and can jump on Stansted Express the one stop it takes to get to airport.

Cars in the 1000£ +/- are easy to buy in the UK, and will make life sooooo much easier for you. A danish friend of mine bought a Saab for 500£ as he gave up on public transport. Car insurance can be a bitch though...so get a letter in English from your danish insurance company to get a little discount if you are lucky..

Also you can find a better rental deal on house/room/apartment by not having to live in the center of BishStortford. BTW a 2 bed fully furnished will run about 800-1000 a month, but search on www.rightmove.co.uk if you aren't in the UK personally.

FYI, here in Colchester, there is serious oversupply of apartments (300+ empty). Colchester is ~30 miles (35 - 45 mins) drive from STN.

There is no direct train link to STN from Colchester. There is a regular bus to the terminal from the train station (£10 single, £15 return if memory serves me right, given fuel prices and parking costs - that's not too bad).

A new 2 bed (unfurnished) apartment will set you back ~£600pcm after haggling. Given thats with allocated parking and is within walking distance to the train station (we are <1 hour from London) that's not too bad. Older, grottier and further away = cheaper.

Do a google search for letting agents. PM me if you wish to know of one others have told me to avoid.

I would also say you need a car. UK public transport is a joke outside of the cities.

Is it possible to own a car in the UK and not have an address there? I'm thinking MOT, insurrance etc...

I'll be commuting in the future but won't have an regular address there...

You need a UK address to have UK car insurance as the insurance premium is dependent on where the car is mostly kept. However you do not necessarily have to live at this address.

You do not need a UK address for an MOT certificate but you need insurance (and thus an address) as well as an MOT certificate to get a tax disc

(As far as the UK is concerned, there is of course nothing to stop you from insuring and registering the car in Berlin or similar as long as the car is roadworthy and legal).

Just bring your car over from EU.

You can get insurance from home until you are more settled in UK.

Just a short ferry ride back for the TuV/MoT to budget for.

I wouldn't get a 1000GBP car if you need reliable transport unless you are a DIY mechanic.

Better off using UK car Auction with g-tee remaining on purchased vehicle. EG: Peugoet 307 1.6HDI was 15000GBP new, sold for 5000GBP two years later (admitedly 48000miles on clock but FSH) at auction with 12 months manufacturers g-tee remaining. Low road tax (now CO2 emissions based in UK) and 50+MPG.

Is there no one living in either Stansted or Bishop who doesn´t have a car. I am planning on renting an appartment close to the station. I just need to know if the timetables for busses and trains fit with working at Easy.
Also where is the Easy crewroom situated in relation to either the trainstation/Busstop and the crew parking minutes etc?
What about prices for Stansted express going from Bishop-Stansted can´t find it on their homepage.

I live in Stortford. There's lots of two bed flats near the station, mostly very new, and more being built. Google should turn something up very quickly. Be warned, some do not have parking spaces allocated and parking can be pricey.

The Stansted Express goes to/from airport and Stortford - one every 30 minutes normally. I'm not sure what time they start/finish but it will be on the website www.stanstedexpress.com .

Buses run 24 hours - 510 from Harlow via Stortford to Airport is operated by Arriva - every 20 mins during the day but falls to hourly late and early. There's a few others but they tend not to operate late night or early morning.

If you look at the transport sections of the BAA website you will get most of the links.

Good luck in Bishops S:mad: and STN. Its a great place. I especially miss the friendly security staff looking through my bag every single day.
