Eastern Airways MAN/CEG Dual Basing

It has been brought to my attention that the crewing department at Disney Land humberside where mickey, mini and donald duck do there best in trying to wreak and demoralize its flight/cabin crew have had the dim witted idea on dual basing its crew.

I would like to point out that the crew have not been consulted over this, its just expected of them and will commence on the 4th of march. I dont think the half witts realise that if this goes ahead they will lose alot of exprienced crew.

There is no reference made to dual basing in any eastern airways flight deck or cabin crew contract either, so i dont see how they can do this??

Eastern really must be in dire straights if they cant afford to pay its crew 25 PENCE A MILE!!!!!!!!!

I believe that the base captain/cabin crew cooardinator (who already are running 2 bases at no extra cost) has written to the ops director to point out all the cons in this dual basing, I would ask all crew to support him in this.
I dont know why they have singled out manchester/ chester why not dual base NCL and MME??

come on richard get YOUR head out of the sand and do something for your hard working under paid crew mate.:ugh:

Really iit s time now that eastern had propper BALPA representation, too long have these good people been shafted by the management.

no sponsor 4th Jan 2008 20:41

They obviously got the bright idea from Jet2.

j41cac 5th Jan 2008 00:51

Yes, crew are most upset. Before you know it , it'll be over.

What was a great airline to work for turns into the rest of the c*&p that circulates around.

Eastern is full of ex Manx, Bral etc (experienced genuine people), these people know whats on the cards. I have spoke to many and all say the same thing, its over in about 2 years.

Great crew, great service, on time always but s$^t wages, terms and conditions. Nothing will ever change.

The management will crucify Eastern, such a shame for the people who make it work day in day out. They have def lost touch!

Happy New Year !

Spartacan 5th Jan 2008 10:29

I have heard that from January 11th up until the end of March 2008 the Isle of Man / Bristol route is suspended and that after that it will be reviewed. This will leave the Isle of Man with just Birmingham and Newcastle. Are the crews under threat of dual basing between the Rock and the UK?

GMIMA 5th Jan 2008 17:23

Yes its a sad state of affairs at eastern................but yet again richard is sat upstairs in his ivory tower with his head in the sand:ugh:
if i remember rightly the terms and the conditions are certainly not the best for turbo prop chaps either.

loss of licence is only 2 basic salary, so that is 2 x 20k as the management yet again have shafted the captains because there is no separate pay scales for Captains or the FOs, they just share the same one with the only exception of the command pay which is NOT INCLUDED IN THE BASIC PAY, NITHER IS THE SERVICE PAY OR THE HOUR INCREMENTS.

NO PENSION, even though matt wood (now taken a back seat as all his ideas and suggestions were chucked out and not taken seriously) raised the idea, but was knocked back, as richard and bryan were made aware of the fact that they would have to proved a pension under EU law come 2009, and thought why spend money if you dont have too!

Spartican:
you ask about the IOM Eastern crew being Dual UK based, they all are as the idiots that run the rostering and crewing department send the IOM guys and Gals away on the "EASTERN AIRWAYS GRAND TOUR", the CRAZY THING IS THE GUYS THEY SEND AWAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED WITH GUYS FROM THE MAINLAND! ROSTERING AND OPS AT THERE BEST!!!!:ugh:

I said about humberside being called disney land, i would like to make an apology to mickey mini and donald, as they could do a far better job.

there is alot of really good willed and good hearted peoople that keep the airline going shame its not reconised!

thoughts?

Cactus99 6th Jan 2008 13:07

Matt Wood has apparently had enough and left the company, and is sitting LHS in a big orange airbus.

from what I gather speaking to ex colleagues, GMIMA, your comments aren't that short of the mark!! Its such a shame that this is the way things are going for once such a great company.

GMIMA 7th Jan 2008 15:07

I dont know of anyother company that makes its pilots/cabin crew drive 2-4 hours to get to another base, the other airlines I have worked for have always provided hallmark mercs/minibuses for crew positioning, its just another attempt at penny pinching.

There was a hostie who crashed her hire car, because of completing several early duties and was then told to position to Norwich from leeds after starting at 0600 and finished 1400, then a 3 hr drive, lucky she never got killed! I would never risk myself for any airline.

Perhaps as a token jesture, ricky and brain could position there crew in those rather super aston martins they drive!:ok:

tocken 9th Jan 2008 14:09

No.... RL drives an Austin Ambassador according to an article in the Times a few months ago..

Honiley 9th Jan 2008 15:59

Not to rub it in too much in view of the "No Christmas Bonus" thread, but did hear a rumour that Eastern were investing in a BE20 for crew movements!

Wellington Bomber 9th Jan 2008 17:04

Who is going to fly that then, or do the crew position themselves instead of driving?

Say again s l o w l y 9th Jan 2008 17:16

According to CAP371 all pre-flight positioning MUST be done as a passenger.

I've never seen Easterns FTL scheme, but I wouldn't have thought they'd get a dispensation.

So I would assume the previous poster means post flight positioning.

Kiltie 11th Jan 2008 07:56

You want thoughts GMIMA...........

Give it a rest. Your Eastern slagging campaign across these forums is becoming rather tiresome. You don't work for Eastern Airways any more so if your partner or ex-colleague want to voice their objections get them to do so under their own user names.

There are precious few ex BRAL pilots working for Eastern contrary to what one poster suggests. Out of interest GMIMA, what is your association with your user name? I don't ever remember flying with you on G-MIMA.

Eastern do provide a stakeholder pension facility which complies with EU law. The company does not make a contribution which is open to debate.

Brian does not drive an Aston Martin.

Calling the Crewing dept. "idiots" is childish and offensive. If you weren't so narrow minded you would understand that roster disruption is a necessary evil of the industry, although to what extent is open to discussion. A Crewing Dept. merely process the resources given to them by those who recruit and train the pilots and cabin crew in the first place. If the resources are low then the Crewing Dept. have less resources to use hence more disruption is inevitable. Disruption is also caused by many other factors such as a surge in charter sales or crew sickness.

The self-drive variation to their FTL scheme is approved by the CAA with appropriate limitations and is not unique to Eastern Airways. Two of the other companies I have worked for have had this same variation, and both also had dual-base arrangements.

The 25p per mile allowance is again open to debate, but there really is no issue here as hire cars are provided by Eastern so crew using their own cars is always by their own choice.

Perhaps your own information would be best put to use having a go at your own employers rather than your ex employers, and leave the Eastern slagging to the few professional whingers and skivers this company is still blighted by.

GMIMA 11th Jan 2008 09:34

Kiltie mate

calling the crewing dept idiots? your words not mine. perhaps this isnt fair after all. They can only work with what they have got, the training dept cant train people fast enoughas people are leaving

most ofthe comments you have made have all ended with "open to debate" and most good people have debated these facts, you must be management mate or a newly promoted base captain.

Here are some facts for you mate:

no other person has come back and have said what a great pension deal!

We love being called up at 5am in the morning on days off.

25p a mile hasnt been changed since 2002.

The last pay increase to all flight crew was just below the cost of living index - didnt even match this!

The reason why you cant get flights crewed and there so much disruption, is for the fact that people are leaving all the time, on to bigger and better things. People will not stay if the terms and conditions are not right, which the management will find out soon enough.

You say that there are a few whingers and skivers in the ranks, well this maybe because they are all sick of being messed about, being shafted, last min roster changes, no crew food, 4 weeks sick pay, constantly away from home, broken promises of improvements, oh and not forgetting that huge 25p a mile.

you also pointed out about dual basing (which has been resolved) there was never an arrangement in place, it was "just expected" with no crew imput!

Its so bad mate, the list is endless, even the chap from BA has hung his hat up and has now left.............mmmmmm maybe all the good people are trying to tell the ivory tower something

Kiltie 11th Jan 2008 09:57

"...they all are as the idiots that run the rostering and crewing department send..."

Erm, no GMIMA, these are your words. :ugh:

And I am neither management nor a Base Captain.

GMIMA 11th Jan 2008 10:16

kiltie

I challenge you to list as many points possible why its sooooooooo great to be employed by eastern?

the only one i can think of is the training is brilliant, but guess what the little scotish guy left too.

do u think u can do that matey?

cheers

Kiltie 11th Jan 2008 11:39

Scratching the sky -

Don't be afraid to agree! Everything you state is factually correct, bar the crew shortage, which, aside from gossip, only the recruitment people would be aware of. They aren't daft and know how itchy pilot's feet get. Eastern Airways is a turboprop company and, statistically, people will move on to larger aeroplanes which usually attract better terms and conditions. Your post contains useful comparisons.

GMIMA -

I have never worked for any company that is, as you strangely describe, "soooooooo great". Also I don't understand why you keep referring to me as "mate" and "matey"? Is this an effort to embellish some kind of sarcasm? I'm confused:hmm:

Although you've declined to answer any of my questions, I shall answer yours. I work for Eastern because the lifestyle, the base and the aeroplane suit my circumstances. Just because the financial reward does not compare with larger companies does not mean I am worse off. Neither do I have any issue with the way my rostering or positioning works. If others that work for Eastern feel differently, they are free and have every right to post at will here. But as I stated earlier, you don't work for Eastern any more so why not step back and allow those who do to offer their own opinion, good or bad?

highflyer101 11th Jan 2008 16:24

not jenx?? he's left?

silverknapper 11th Jan 2008 20:25

G MIMA

You are getting very boring - it isn't cool to denegrate your old company. It is so predictable and quite frankly childish. It is clear from your postings that you appear to have only a half baked idea of what goes on at eastern so why the online hate campaign? Nothing better to do? Still doing the keen new boy act at your current company until you leave and start sticking the knife in?
As Kiltie states above ALL Turboprop outfits will always struggle to keep flight crew. It would take one hell of a package to stop us all wanting to move on at some point to something bigger and shinier - perhaps more than 29 seat economics dictate, perhaps not. You have left GMIMA, what would have kept you at Eastern? Honestly now.
There are issues above in which you may have a point. I grant you that in todays economy 25p a mile is poor. Interesting to note Eastern get loss of licence, I don't. At all. I don't get medicals paid for, Today I self drove for 4 hours after a 10 hour FDP. Will I come on here slagging my company if I leave? No. I will take the best bits from it and look back probably with rose tinted glasses.
If you go through life looking for problems 'matey' you'll never be happy. Especially if those problems are with your ex employer!

JB007 11th Jan 2008 20:56

Got to agree with the above GMIMA! What's your problem?

I notice you're an Airbus pilot from your profile, why can't you just let what ever your issue is with T3 go and get on with your life...you seem to be doing ok, if indeed you are one of those chaps who can be happy with their lot and not one of those who will never be happy whatever their doing!

I flew turboprops for 3 years before I did the jet thing and I look back with huge fondness of my time on the Saab340 and would not have changed any of it...I would say, you need to get your head straight, cos you've reached the bitter and twisted stage about 30 years early!

j41cac 16th Apr 2008 21:28

Who told you that? Thats why idea was dropped due to everyone being P****d off and sick of drop off that hat ideas. It kicked up a right fuss I heard. :=
