Aurigny Air Services: length of line training period?

Hi there, anybody out there know the likely length of the line training period for a new FO straight out of the ATR type rating course?

Cheers.

thanks for the advice, have you been through the line training with Aurigny, or are you just talking in general terms?

ICEHOUSES 11th Nov 2007 16:32

Yes been through line training myself there, generally this is time it takes.
Good luck

thats cool, thought it might be a bit longer as I hear that FOs there dont have a particularly busy schedule in terms of flying hours. Thought it might take a bit longer, a month or so b4 getting paid isnt too bad to manage.

Do Aurigny not pay new hires until they finish their line training?

You got it! :yuk:

Thats a f##king disgrace then! I wonder if it's even fully legal under British law? Minimum wage anyone? :ugh:

Ever since people started 'paying' for line training with companies like Eagejet and Bond, is it any wonder airlines believe they can get away with schemes like this?

I'm certain new employees are made fully aware of the situation when Aurigny send them their T&Cs. It's up to them whether they sign it or not. I also doubt Aurigny are the only carrier guilty of it either?

They get paid from day 1 ie their induction day at the company, detailing the delights Guernsey has to offer:D! But the money goes to the individuals bank account once they have passed their line check. That's the way it used to be anyway!

wheelbarrow warrior 12th Nov 2007 21:00

When you finish line training you get full FO pay backdated. Ie you do get paid during the line training period, but you only get ur hands on the cash for it if you sucessfully complete the training.
They are basically trying to ensure that they don't pay any money to someone who doesnt make the grade. Somewhat of a pain to have to use my credit card to live off for a month, but not too bad to put up with in comparison to some other airlines out there.

Hence the reason why I am keen to get the line training done as quickly as possible. I want my money!

Mercenary Pilot 13th Nov 2007 08:38

It's a relief to hear you guys ARE actually getting paid, but does that mean that if you fail a line check you get chopped with no money?

Surely, that's what interviews and sim checks are for? :uhoh:

wheelbarrow warrior, I'm not trying to rain on your parade, so well done on getting the job and good luck with line training.

:ok:

If someone gets chopped it usually happens durring the OPC/LPC in the sim before the line training or prehaps if someone did gash circuits in the ATR72. So the situation tends not to arise.

Can confirm Aurigny do back pay from day one so no one gets robbed!

You have to understand that ATR pilots are always in demand at the moment as there is massive fleet expansion around the world for this type. The problem for Aurigny is that they have taken on people in the past who have an ATR type which has expired and want to work somewhere else and just use Aurigny to get their ticket renewed then buzz off without so much as a good-bye, leaving the company with the bill and a gapping hole in the roster. It is for this reason that things have come to this.

If people seem promising but not up to standard they will give extra training as long as they continue to show reasonable improvement each time they fly.

We have some reccurent maintenance problems with our ATR42/72. I reckon that the only place where those flying rubbish aircraft may fly is in Africa only :ugh:. It is TIME to get some new ones.

There are still lots of F/Os at the moment and I guess your line training will take 2 months, depending if you're luck or not. Yes you'll be paid from day one but at the end of your line check only. Also as we get paid on the 28th of each month, if you complete your LC on the 29th you will then have to wait for another month :E

Don't worry with your line training, the minimum here is 40 sectors but some of my "F/Os" did sign out after 100+ sectors...:yuk:
Maybe that's also explaining why our ATR are often grounded and why most Aurigny captains are very scared to fly with some of our current "F/Os"..
Appart from that, welcome to Aurigny. You will be flying for the states of Guernsey and I am sure you'll be proud of that :ok:

Scared Captains

Been here for a while now and even though the F/O turnover is high i have never heard of any Captain that has been scared of flying due to the lack of experience of F/Os. The experience that is gained in this company through working in the channel islands is invaluable and that has been proved time and time again by the fact that these so called scare F/Os who have left us have gotten very good jobs, (Easy, First Choice, etc ) I am not a company man but do not think that these comments are fair or accurate, as regards down time on the ATRs We only have three and these are working seven days a week 364 days a year, and on occasion they break down, and our engineers work damn hard to get them going again and always succeed. This has nothing to do with scare F/Os. Like any place of work there are always good and bad, but that is the same the world over. My suggestion is if your scared then maybe your in the wrong job, you should never put yourself in a position where a F/O is going to scare you. :=
