SouthWest - Indeed Paradise
Read any business book on South West ; I have never met an unhappy pilot or employee with them . Business schools throughout the world use South West as a role model- ethos staff first , passengers second , and shareholders third ....and the most successful airline ever and the bestperforming share in the history of the US Stock Exchange . A lot depended on the ethos create by the two co-founders .
The rest of the airlines are also used as teaching models - of the worst run organisations - BA and Ryanair included . BA uses margin improvement to calculate management bonuses - an encouragement to short termism , and basically they have a direct personal financial incentive to sack staff - look for the BA ground staff at Edinburgh and Glasgow . The established airlines exist by inertia due to their slots - and as such never attract the brightest . Rod Eddington was regarded as a buffoon , and Mr Walsh little better - and - as one of his employees - the idea that he has any influence whether on strategy - or God forbid - but imagine - in on security decisions - fills me with dread . For inspiration or depression - read The SouthWest Way . |
Maybe we should send our respective manager a copy of the book for christmas...

EY management should also look at it. New team here delights in making lots of nit pickity rules and are loosing the plot.:ouch:

The only airline in the world left with a woman at the helm?
http://www.southwest.com/about_swa/?ref=abtsw_gn I bet that's got something to do with it! looking after your staff, has a motherly notion to it (kind off ;)) You see MOL, success and a happy workforce do co-incide!* *Provided you're not an egotistical maniac |
Actually TUI fly or Thomsonfly/First Choice now have a woman at the helm, so now we can confidently await the change in ethos to staff first , passengers second , and shareholders third :ok:
