Kabo Air

Does anybody know anything about where Nigeria´s Kabo Air get´s their pilots from and under what conditions (crew leasing company, lenght of contract, home base, destinations, pay)? Apparently they bought a 747-200 from Virgin last month and I´d like to spend some time in Nigeria.

Are u suicidal???

Kabo hired pilots for the last Hajj after advertising on US pilot newsletters.

You'll need to be rated on B747. Length of contract probably not that long. I expect Kabo will be operating the Umrah (mini Hajj) and the Hajj itself but nothing concrete beyond that.

Base would probably be Kano in northern Nigeria. There are no good hotels there.

Also be advised that the company, despite the best efforts of it's reps in Miami and London, is incredibly disorganised and the man behind the operation thinks that not paying salaries or maintenance bills is a clever way to do business.

If I were you I'd Think Three (Thousand) times b4 even considering about flying over there!! I happen to fly in those regions quite often and I can only say that if you ever stick your nose outta the hotel (unsafe per se) you could find yourself killed for a pair of Nikes, a cheap wrist watch, or a wallet full of a couple of bucks;that's what i takes! -----------------Happines is V1 up in Lagos!!! Cheers! ;)

Dont even bother...

Read the 'Nigeria Airways' thread in the African forum for further comment on Mr. Kabo...

You will end up flying with crews who think they are better than and more important than you, Lebanese, Sudanese, Africans...the lot!

GlueBall 10th Sep 2001 01:38

If you're 23 years old and you "haven't been there, done that" yet, I guess it's OK.

Glue, that really depends on whether you ever want to be 24.

i remember seeing an article some years ago about 3 guys who managed to to land a stricken kabo aircraft...think it was an all engines out job.they have quite a few icelandic pilots.i once met a chief adamu in london thru a friend...er ...awfully nice bloke.

B747wideboy 14th Sep 2001 02:21

Yep. Those pilots have all moved on to better things to be replaced by locals. Still the same mechanics though....

FREDA 16th Sep 2001 06:47

Heard a rumour that Kabo has leased two 747s to Iran Air. Is that true?

They´d better be careful not to go the way of Gulf Falcon in the current environment...

CedarBus 17th Sep 2001 02:22

FREDA: Just came back from Jeddah where we departed behind a KABO 747 operating an Iran Air Flight to Mashad-Iran.
Boss Raptor: don't know where you got your info about Lebanese pilots flying for KABO. A retired MEA 747 captain flew for them a few month in the Hajj. That's it. They might have a few locals from Lebanese origin but they were hired as Nigerians. You opinion on Lebanese pilots might be misplaced, and I would like to know on what do you base it and where do you come from yourself an if you do fly or not. just who do you consider the best pilots to look up to??
