Staff Travel?

My employer Cathay Pacific has recently changed the fare structure to one of the nicer of airline benefits, namely STAFF TRAVEL.

It has made many of us wonder whether or not we are on par with many of the worlds major airlines.

Our system is one of Zones.

ZONE1: is now charged at $33USD(incl. tax)in Economy. $51USD in Business. Both return.(~<1 hour flight time)

Zone2: $38USD E. $79USD B. (~1-2 hours)
Zone3: $49USD E. $98USD B. (~2-3.5 hours)
Zone4: $72USD E. $152USD B. (~3.5-5 hours)
Zone5: $80USD E. $170USD B. (~5-8 hours)
Zone6: $90USD E. $188USD B. (~8-9 hours)
Zone7: $105USD E. $278USD B. (~9-10 hours)
Zone8: $121USD E. $324USD B. (10+ hours)
**Absolutly no upgrade to higher class without ticket**

Do these prices seem high??

We are continuously told that we have one of the best travel policies in the industry so I ask other readers/ contributors to clarify?

The other "perks" include 1 economy FOC ticket per annum non-upgradeable.

A few of the plusses are the fact that travel "benefits" at these rates are extended to your parents, a sibiling, and a companion that is changable once per year.

The fares used to be ID90 but I don't know anymore what there based on! I always did feel that ID90 with your own carrier was a lousy deal when you can fly ID90 with most interline agreements.

Any thoughts??

Nudger, At UA we are going to the zone system for interline tickets. For online tickets, all yc and cc travel is free, you pay a surcharge for fc(under 150 usd for nrt-sfo for example).Pass priviledges are extended to parents, spouse and children up to age 22.We also receive 'buddy passes' 24 one sector coupons that we may give to anyone, they do not have to travel with us.We are liable on the free tickets for any customs fees/airport fees, etc.

A free ride and a free meal are 2 of the 3 things no pilot ever turns down....

GW, Thanks for your reply!

Now; I was sure that most US carriers benefits were significantly greater than ours but wasn't sure how much greater!

I do agree that the zone system appears like a good system for interline travel, but on your own airline?? Sounds like a money grab to me!

Any other "ONE WORLD" employees out there to compare??

THX again...

Hey, found a great site for finding staff travel deals. This site has a portal that links to most all of the interline travel sites. They also have a forum dedicated exclusively to interline travel. Check out www.nonrev.net/
