bmi regional T's & C's

Can't find anything in general search (maybe that's a good sign!) But does anyone have any info on bmi regional? Rosters? Basing policy? Once in, is it easy to move sideways into mainline or baby? Are they a good company to work for?
Any info will be gratefully received.:ok:

bmi regional is a good company to work for. Of course, you hear the same grumbles about management, rosters, lifestyle etc that you will hear from flight crew within any airline you'd care to mention.

On the whole, management do make every attempt to keep disruptions down to a minimum whilst doing what they can to keep the business running.

The aircraft are fun to fly, well maintained (bmir has the best reliability record of any embraer fleet), and the support from ops and TCC is excellent.

The crews you fly with are all good people to work with.

The pay and T's & C's are not the best in the industry, but on a scale of best to worst they are a lot closer to the top than the bottom.

The work load depends on the base with EMA being perhaps the quietest base (unless you're a trainer) and ABZ or Leeds being the busiest.

I would recommend bmi regional to a friend.

Would you be looking to join as an F/O or a Capt?

Hello!

I would also be interested in joining BMI Regional as an F/O, and I'm looking for detailed and updated information about the airline and the current T & C's.
Manchester would be my chosen base, would it be difficult to get? I've heard that most new joiners are based in Aberdeen, is it true?

Thanks a lot for your help!

WW.

CTP,
Thanx for that; all really useful. I'd be looking to join as an F/O and don't mind which base. Just another quick question..What sort of pattern do the rosters run to(if any?!) Is it a 6 or 5 on, followed by 3/4 off, or something completely different?
Interview is next Thursday....Thanx once again,

Rosters do vary from base to base, but on the whole, you should be able to expect three days of flying, two days of standby and two days off in a week.

If you work six days in a row, this will be followed by three days off.

You will also have the odd single day off in the middle of the week. A single day off being at least 38 hours with two local nights.

All I can say is that from my experience you won't feel overworked and you will be home pretty much every night.

The bit about all new FO's being sent to Aberdeen is not really true as most of the pilots there are there by choice.

Manchester is a small base, but there are some upgrades taking place there, I believe, so a basing there for a new FO is not impossible.

Good luck with the interview. Revisit the stuff on swept wings and deep stall, and be prepared for some questions on your current type, even if it is the aircraft you used for your IR training.

Good luck.

I have heard they are having some problems getting new aircraft! Anybody any news on this?

Interview very relaxed and straighfwd.

Good luck and hopefully will work with you guys soon.

flyhigh2fly, the negotiations on two of the airframes have not gone to plan, but there are more out there and the expansion plans should be back on track sooner rather than later.

acbus1, "Free of charge, too". Do you think I should charge?;)

flyhigh2fly 7th May 2007 09:29

Thanks for the info, hopefully like you said I will get a call soon.
Cant wait to join bmi regional!

flyhigh2fly, what s your profile ?

acbus1 8th May 2007 12:56

Anyone know what the current relocation agreement is?

Very important, that is, when dealing with bmi Regional.

East Midlands to Aberdeen rings a bell. Anyone remember "little" lifestyle alterations along those lines?

Catch the pidgeon,

Thanks for the info re BMIR, could you answer me a quick question, would they recruit DECs into the LHR base?? Is it a very popular base?

another quick question for those in the know...

bmi regional - Aerad or Jeppesen plates?

cheers
FL

Ropey Pilot 13th May 2007 08:52

Aerads
LHR is a 'temporary' base - so you will be allocated one of the others and seconded. Huge bunfight for southerners to get down there so I wouldn't hold your breath for it!

Pigeon obviously enjoys working there (it is a good company), but in the last 2 years weekends have all but disappeared from home life - either down at LHR for the friday night emb migration or covering the rest of the work at home while everyone else heads to LHR.

Catch The Pigeon 13th May 2007 10:22

JaJaBinx, I believe that LHR is not yet fully crewed. DEC's have only recently been placed there, and the group are looking to put a third aircraft into LHR.

Ropey Pilot is correct in what he says, and I'm sorry about his lack of weekends at home. However, If you are looking to join bmir to be based at LHR I would say that:

Whilst basing is never a sure thing and we all take our chances when joining a new airline, LHR will require more crews once the third aircraft is placed there;

Whilst the embraers are only there on a temporary basis, they have been there temporarily for over a year now and are likely to remain there temporarily for the next three years if not for as long as it takes for them to become permanent;

People can only give advice based on their own experience. I'm no different, and whilst I have heard of many in bmir that have not been happy with the lack of weekends off, I can only say that in my experience I have not been short of weekends off;

Lastly, and sorry to go on, bmir is still trying to expand the fleet, and whilst in the interim current crews are being sent to other bases whilst training of new crews is taking place, you will be joining an expanding airline.

CarltonBrowne the FO 13th May 2007 13:58

Weekends off HAVE been an issue lately- I had a six month spell without a weekend off last year, and recently had 2 months without one. However, in the last month or two it seems to have settled down a bit- about one weekend off in three or four.
Days off are supposed to be eight a month- on the current roster I have several more than that, but there was little point in giving me standbys given that I'm rostered for 100 hours flying (and the rest). DE Captains will probably be able to go straight to LHR (hold out for the extra money, they will not get enough volunteers to fill all the left seats). For new FOs I would say it is less likely, but not impossible. The FOs as a group failed to understand market forces, and volunteered to work out of LHR for no extra pay. :ugh:
Latest rumour out of Stockley Close is that LHR will continue into the winter 2007-8 (perhaps only one aircraft) then stop. This would tie in with the Embraer being more of a slot-protection measure than a permanent A319 replacement- come March 2008 a lot of the shorthaul routes may go back to the 319, on a reduced frequency, freeing up slots for longhaul. Of course, I have no inside track into the mind of SMB ( ) so all the above may prove complete rot...
