GB Announcement 1st March (Crew thread)

Does any flightcrew out their who work for GB know what the announcement is about on 1st March ?

aspaceman 10th Feb 2007 14:22

Yip
GB will take over the BA operations at LGW. They will be the BA presence there. BA LGW will transfer to GB airways as Bacon did to flybe.
Wait and see!

Evel Knievel 10th Feb 2007 14:38

Mind sharing your info source spaceman?? There are more rumours and theories flying around Gb at the moment than you'd care to mention

pushapproved 10th Feb 2007 15:24

Don't take the bait!! If what aspaceman is saying were true there would surely be rumours and an announcement at BA LGW on 1 March as well! :}

Evel Knievel 10th Feb 2007 15:51

Furry Muff push approved. Somethin's a brewin' thoug' eh!! Just curious! Arn't you??

pushapproved 10th Feb 2007 15:54

Always curious and I'm sure everybody loves a good rumour!! :E

cirrus01 10th Feb 2007 16:27

Actually the truth is that GB are to take over all BA operations at LHR...........:D :D :D
and that the efficient, cost effective better managed operation at Gatwick will be the NEW BA.:)
Seriously , though have GB got any spare capacity ???

aspaceman 10th Feb 2007 16:42

Actually the truth is that GB are to take over all BA operations at LHR...........:D :D :D

No just LGW.

All the spare capacity will come from BA at LGW. This is in order to help Willie get ready for 5. BA still need a presence in LGW but this will be provided by a somewhat large GB franchise.

It is definately not 'bait' - wait and see.

Remember Willie has stated thta all elements of the new BA are to turn a profit.

Look how and what he has done to BA Connect and the 1900 (yes - 1900) employees there who are being forced to change their T&C's or seek employment elsewhere.

BA LGW - you were warned - you are next! :=

Jambo Buana 10th Feb 2007 17:01

Does it cost BA more money with the GB deal than it would to operate the flights themselves? I cant imagine it is cheaper to wet lease, therefore I predict that Willie will be looking to axe the arrangement and get his own guys to do the work and lose the middleman. Actually i dont know what the deal is between BA and GB but you can bet your bottom dollar that the contract is up for review!

flyer55 10th Feb 2007 17:02

Well if that is the case then the crew and pilots will not allow it and we will make a point of that ! If it is going to be anything gb will either go their own way or the will come into the gatwick fleet !

Gatwick Fleet ( mainline fleet ) to be come a franchise think again !

The Scarlet Pimpernel 10th Feb 2007 17:12

"Will not allow it"

On what terms.....any??

newbagr 10th Feb 2007 18:46

guys relax......gatwick fleet recruits new entrants.....i ve heard the rumour that all shorthaul operation will be handed to GB which i think is pretty hard to believe.... but even worse now....gatwick to become a whole franchise....thats a joke:-) i am sure willie would not give the base a second chance if it wasnt making profit and everyone be sure about it that he wont hesitate to close us down if he thinks we got no chance.....but i dont know what would happen to us the staff at LGW.... the possibility of GB merging with gatwick fleet seems more possible specially now they are moving into JH on the 1st of March strangely

Railgun 10th Feb 2007 19:10

To quote BB of BA "once we have finished in the regions Gatwick is next"

hapzim 10th Feb 2007 19:21

May just have a slight Orange tint to this announcement.:suspect:

aspaceman 10th Feb 2007 19:30

"Well if that is the case then the crew and pilots will not allow it and we will make a point of that ! If it is going to be anything gb will either go their own way or the will come into the gatwick fleet !"

Look flyer

Think BACON !!

How will you make a point of it?

You will be sold to GB - not a merging, not GB joining the fold - but BA Shorthaul Gatwick leaving the BA Group to become a franchise with GB's palm being crossed with silver.
Willie doesent want you - he wants rid of you, you cost to much and he will pay GB to take you off his hands. Yes - the untouchable mainline is about to be BACONed. It will be another share transfer so that you do not get TUPE and GB will then shred the pay, allowances and leave etc just as has been done with BACON. There will be no transfer to the mothership at fortress LHR because once the deal is announced GB will own you and your fate is sealed/BACONED
I say again
Wait and see! :=

apaddyinuk 10th Feb 2007 19:40

As much as it would not surprise me if this was true, I find it a little hard to believe at a time when BA have just reopened recruitment for SFG and when GB have absolutely no experience of operating such a huge operation that even LGW is with a mix of both longhaul and shorthaul. Also, BA have just gone through all that hassle of creating SFG that to suddently chuck it just a month after it is finalised seems madness, even for Willie!!!

phantom menace 10th Feb 2007 19:41

Announcement now 1st April

There's no way the private owners of GB would take the risk...They were offered the old AML contract years ago...golden opportunity let slip.

aspaceman 10th Feb 2007 19:50

"Also, BA have just gone through all that hassle of creating SFG that to suddently chuck it just a month after it is finalised seems madness"

BACON was only a few moths old before...........

Recruitment continues because aircraft will still need to be flown trough and after the transition phase.

Longhaul not part of the deal - Operated by LHR based crew with existing crew transferred to LHR

Also, like BACON, pension of remaining LGW crew to be frozen and deferred helping to solve the pension problem

HZ123 10th Feb 2007 20:01

A month to Warerside is like a day in politics. However, cuts will still need to be made by BA LGW to maximise profits so it is not out of the question that other routes could certainly be passed to GB. As for the agreements the latest round of management versus unions will have to be paid for by some of us. More likely that the ramp handling operation at LGW will be outed as the first wave of changes.

aspaceman 10th Feb 2007 20:11

The rampers will transfer to GB with the rest and will have the longhaul handling contract at LGW
