RBS CityFlyer

What is the general view on the latest re-incarnation of the BA lo-cost EDI -LCY operation?

1. Are BA serious about keeping it going?

2. Will BACC allow exemption from scope? :E

3. Is there a career there, or just a place to go while the CVs land?

4. Are SW, PH etc really going to be the management? :}

Please keep the thread on message, and not away with the slagging.

Ciao Bella,

Antonio Correlli x x

Don't worry.

Just get your bid in and go! :ok:

towser 22nd Dec 2006 18:31

1. Apparently
2. Scope won't be an issue after a time
3. Still to be seen but possibly
4. PH leaving once up and running

Cornflake 23rd Dec 2006 08:24

It must seem like a good option because a lot of people are actively trying to get across from the 14sick, even allowing for the Edinburgh location.
TandemR, you have the connections, do you know for sure that BALPA won't just sell it down the river under scope? There still seems to be no mention of any future potential for BA seniority list joining, that would give the thing a bit more gloss.
Ref PH, if he moves on, who will be heading Citiflyer?

Captain Correlli 23rd Dec 2006 10:14

Thanks guys, just have to see how the EZY interview goes now. RBS has some attraction, but the problem is the move to EDI on the strength of what BA tell us. Midlands is a much better place for finding a job if it all goes tits-up again, on the other hand...better the devil you know, particularly if DE is vacating. Does anyone know if relocation will be paid to EDI if I decide to stick around?

skianyn vannin 23rd Dec 2006 12:56

Does anyone actually know how the selection for BA Chippyfryer will be carried out? Will it be done on seniority or "face fits".
Must say I've bid for it myself in preference to FlyBACON, and a number of others on the 146 at MAN have done likewise. Not only do we want to continue to accrue jet hours until we can get a jet job elsewhere, but a number of us aren't sure how we will fare in Flybe under BW

I agree with Captain Corelli. Its a big move to make on the basis of what the old BACON "politburo" are telling us.

towser 23rd Dec 2006 14:02

Captain; If you are on the RJ in BHX then relocation will be paid to go to EDI. If however you are not at present on the RJ then I believe it wouldn't as you are effectivley bidding aspirationally away from your base.

Mike Mercury 23rd Dec 2006 15:10

BW is an okay guy, the question really is the one mentioned earlier - can we really believe BA this time? It would be a first if their lips are moving without telling porkies!!
Second question is then whether or not there will be any vacancies for anyone NOT presently on the RJ, and whether preference will be given to 146 guys who are effectively already rated on the beast. Third and final question is who will be the FM? I hear that OD isn't sticking around, and that four trainers are in the frame for the job, MP, DK, NG and KP.

CAN WATERSIDE BE TRUSTED THIS TIME????:oh:

Tandemrotor 23rd Dec 2006 17:51

Cornflake

Scope will not be an issue. Now BA have realised they have to allow secondees access to the EDI base, it will be covered under the secondee agreement, which as you probably know stands outside 'scope'.

Under the same agreement, RJ100 has to be replaced in the next three and a half years!

Cheers

Captain Correlli 24th Dec 2006 13:37

What is the BACC perspective on three and a half years from now? I realise that's impossibly long for Waterworld to plan, (or maybe anyone) but what happens to the scope thing if we're all still here and flying around either in shiny Embraers or more more likely knackered old RJs?

towser 24th Dec 2006 14:11

All RJ leases run out by end of 2010 I believe. I also belive that if the replacment aircraft have less than 100 seats (i.e. EMB 190) then scope no longer applies.

Captain Correlli 24th Dec 2006 14:24

Thanks Towser, it does seem like a workable plan, though a bit vulnerable given its size. There's still the whole BA management competence thing, (including the people who are supposedly going to be running this, although the departure of PH and SW can be viewed as a step forwards). The management will directly affect whether we're (allowed) to make a profit. We might always be a pawn although a much smaller one than we were with BACON, so any losses or profits would be similarly small. If we did become a success in the way we were as Brymon and BRAL, would BA interfere again? If BA ever want to dispose or close, it's an simple cheap operation. I think I'll still see if I can pass the EZY interview (one licence and a pulse) and try and explore this basing thing where they won't confirm until close to starting. The other incentive is the redundancy if I don't move to EDI - does anyone know if they're paying statutory or if a better package may be on offer?
Finally, I thought the EM 195 had 108 seats - what happens then? That would clearly be the best option commercially, but scope would presumably apply - does that mean we'd be allowed to continue flying it, or would we be bumped off? Alternatively, will the secondees stay if we got 170s or 190s with less than 100 seats, or would the old "London Airport" routing story be used again. What IS a bloke to do.....apart from take the orange pill and be worked to death!:E

towser 24th Dec 2006 15:14

Thats why it won't be the 195. Its too big for city anyway apparently.
