This sounds about normal for Balpa, they are very weak when it comes crunch time. Same sh1t in my company. If it comes under the heading of
"far too difficult" they don't want to know.:ugh: They have personally let me down on several occasions, so I gave myself a 1% payraise.:D

Couldn't agree more torycanyon. Feel Balpa have really let the members down, by accepting an empty promise for "jam" next year. They couldn't even negotiate extra sick leave or loss of licence, which would have cost the company very little.

Thing is, you lot, you shouldn't just roll over and accept this! That's just what they're hoping you'll do. They expect you to just get fed up and accept the steamrollering they're fobbing you off with! You pay a fortune to BALPA, so make em earn every penny (for a change)!


Tell em you aren't agreeing to their "proposals". You want your full demands met (whatever they are.....you have defined them, right?).

If your full demands aren't met, then you've already told BALPA what to do in a proper vote! Strike!

Im not in a union but as a fairly new starter with bmi I still havent made up my mnd if it is worth joining BALPA or not, it does seem expensive.

IPF/IPA eleven quid a month and very helpful people.

Try ALPL. About £10.50 / month. No glossy mag. No credit card. no newsletter. No aggressive CC reps giving you grief in the crew-room. Check their website and give yourself that 1%!

Slightest sign of a collapse (BALPA led in this case) and the defeatism and apathy takes over. Cheap and crude bmi tactics win again.

Forget about ALPL for a while, get off your sad little ar**s and tell BALPA you aren't taking their garbage. Force them to do what you want!

You can bang on BALPA's door all you like, ACBUS. It won't make any difference. SMB has hardly budged against the union in all his time (except for the odd day off here, and a bit of a productivity scheme there). I can't wait to see what's been agreed this time!
If you're not happy, you leave. Most of the SFOs have gone. The first trickle of Captain's are off to Easy. Many more will follow now. It's not being defeatist, it's just a better option. bmi will NEVER change.
If you are happy, you put-up, shut-up and see it for what it is. Just a job. Take the money and go home at the end of the day.
Life is all about having choice. BALPA is one, ALPL is another. Think of what benefits you need from your organisation, then decide what gives best value for money. You choose.

Bit harsh, AC. How does our industrial relationship with the company affect our safe and efficient operation of aircraft? We are all professionals and would never let our gripes with the company affect the way we operate.

This year, for my 1% I got a reasonable enough lifestyle agreement (not by any means perfect, but much better than the complete lack previously), some days off which do not include 2300 finishes before and 0600 starts after, and a great deal of entertainment!

What the travelling public realise is that there are no muppets in bmi, the no hopers are weeded out swiftly eg acbus1 and sent packing, (this explains his rabid anti bmi viewpoint :{ ) I suggest that acbus 1 would be better directing his energies in trying some anger management therapy rather than mischeif making and poking his nose into a pilot discussion that does not concern him

I heard there are quite a few waiting to see the result and if its not up to much there off to pastures orange(i heard plenty have already had the interviews)so I think for the company's sake they put enough in the pot.
