Excel Airways!!!! Who has the key???
For ages now ive been trying to get info on Excel Airways.......They fly the A/C i wanna fly, they have the base i want and fly to the places i wanna fly to!!
But gettin any info on Excel is like pulling teeth let alone getting a job there!!:{ Does anyone on here know anything about Excel Airways? Even knowin the CP's name would be a start but its info i just cant get hold of!! However, I do know the name of SM.......and her mail box is full constantly....and when she eventually does answer the phone it seems our conversation is goin full flow in Swahili or something......:ugh: I dont know anyone who works for Excel and cant info that way......:{ the only other thing i know about Excel is that OAT can regularly be seen hanging out of their backside!!:E Ive got over 500hrs MC and 900Hrs TT on a heavy TP.......Will this help?? If anyone has the info then please PM me!!:ok: Or even just some experience of Excel would be good....tjhey look like a good place to work but we all know looks can be deceiving!! |

Do your homework before deciding to join Excel.....you will probably need a 757/767 type rating but not necesarily time on type though....don't know about the 737 pool. The Chief pilot is a guy named Alan Pattison.....and unfortunately I don't have the contact numbers anymore but you can try reaching Jerry O'Sullivan of Airborne at Stoner House in Crawley and he can give you the lowdown on the situation there. i have been flying with some contract excel chaps recently, as far as i could tell they need pilots to plug the gap as quite a few change over (to RYR) but i think a rating and experience is mandatory.

CP is called James Scott but you need a TR on the 737 or at least some jet time. He's very busy so don't bother him if you don't have the requirements. Contact Storm Aviation and ask them about getting summer contracts to fly for Excel. Alan Patterson was the CP of the AAE part of the operation (757/767) but all has been merged now. Only F/Os as a policy of no direct entry commands.

Bizzare if Excel are looking for guys, there's nothing on their website.

excel are never going to win any awards for roster stability and pay, but ultimately people stay here because the flight crew and management are a nice bunch of people - or at least so far. The lack of postings regarding excel on this forum is I think a good sign that people are prepared to just get on with the job and not spend all day moaning on a web site. Storm aviation is the easiest way to get information re excel.

If you are single or don't care about your life outside flying then excel is for you. I was there last year and I will not be there this year(on 737). People OK but the operation sucks, always firefighting, with the guys at the sharp end taking the heat. I cannot see how it can be any better with AI in full control.

A couple of valid points but some homework should be done here:8 .....like why did AVION previously independant AAI buy XL!? Now if the AVION Group were to remove their "heaps of junk/old tatty planes" as you so eloquently put it,would the XL brand have a leg to stand on:confused: !? The "heaps of junk/old tatty planes" had better maintenance when AAI were taking care of the aircraft unlike Monarch and SR Tecnich whose only objective is to DMI all items.....sweep it under the rug and hopefully it will go away mentality just to name a few issues:eek: . Who had the brilliant idea of "contracting" out maintenance....again, more homework to be done on your part:hmm: . Now, here's a novel idea.....what would YOU do to sort out the mess they are about to embark in this coming summer:confused: .Maybe there is a big picture to be seen here!?:} |

In the last few days excel just hired a few more guys/gals for the 737 fleet through storm. Most had approx 4-500hrs on type plus. Think storm have quite a few (F/O) 737 drivers on the books all looking to jump ship. Many are from outside the UK. Good Luck |
XL have had problems with the storm contracts as the guys on these disappear to Ryanair over winter, the past two winters it has caused problems with guys not flying and therefore not earning. However this has now stopped and XL have terminated the contract with Ryanair and have just lost a number of guys to said company so i'd imagine there will be some availability maybe at the end of the year, although i think there is a deal with Oxford to take a certain number of ab initio's, think this year its 8??
As for the company, personally i really like it great crews varied destinations yeah we work hard over summer but the winter is nice and quiet expect 650-700 hours a year. More a/c arriving this year and rumours of a couple of 737-900's next year or year after. |
