BA B757/767 Info Please!
 
Hi, I am lucky enough to be starting on the 757 soon and could not find any info in PPRuNe about it.........

Looking to find out if you are trained on 757 only for a while and what to expect roster wise when new, are tours the thing?

Sorry I can't help but do you know if BA consider th 757 'longhaul' with respect to the hold pool?

ie do you need 1000hrs on a jet of over 25 tonnes - or is it the same criteria as the airbus?

The training programme is now 767 oriented with 757 differences. If you are accepted onto the fleet, you should be capable of going ETOPS straight away - in other words they won't keep you on the 757 for a while and then give you ETOPS. Rosters are mixed - tours and day trips, all depending on what you get. The great bonus to the fleet is the mix of work. Longhual mixed in with shorthaul tours and day trips makes for a mixed lifestyle. Blind lines etc are not too bad and generally it is a very happy fleet. I would say the best in the airline at the moment.

It is considered the same as the airbus so you don't need 1000 heavy hours..........

Does anyone know how long BA expect to keep the 757/767 flying for bearing in mind the age of the a/c now?

Blind lines etc are not too bad and generally it is a very happy fleet. I would say the best in the airline at the moment.
I would suggest that the 747-400 is still the best fleet by a country mile, but that the 757/767 fleet is a contented fleet with a nice mix of work, and probably 2nd to the 747-400 in that it doesn't have the high number of tiring 3-day Atlantic work that the 777 has.

However, things can change, and with more 767's being dusked to LH config, the Atlantic workload will probably increase. The 777 is very capable and its workload will probably improve, but nothing will touch the 747-400 for the foreseeable future.

Topbunk - it does depend where you sit of course. I think as a junior on the 74 it would not be as good as junior on the 76. I know we will get more East coast, but as long as we don't become an almost exclusively East Coast fleet, I think that will be OK. You get East Coast on the jumbo too no?

The plan for the 76 runs until 2012 at the mo. They have just redone the 10 longhaul interiors and 4 of the shorthaul fleet will go longhaul soon. I would suggest that if they have spent the money, it will stay for a while, as the interiors are BA fit. I know airline logic doesn't always work that well though...!

There is certainly life in the fleet yet. It will eventually go, but then you can say you have done it! The 75 and 6 are still great aircraft to fly and we have a good route structure.

Agree, great fleet to be on at the moment.

With regards to ETOPS training, there used to be a table that would tell you when to expect to gat your ETOPS training flight, it depended on your experience eg. if you were low hours you wouldn't get it till your first opc/lpc. That might have changed now though with all the extra L/haul work coming our way.

Your rosters will be a good mix of work, but if you've been following any of the other BA roster threads you will probably have guessed that you will be on blind lines for quite some time and as a result have only a very limited say in what you want to do and when you want to do it! it folllows therefore that you willl end up working most weekends.
However, even down at the bottom of the list the guys on blind lines often pick up the nice trips and if your're not to bothered about when you work you willl have a great time.

pin head, the remaining 75/76 airframes that we have are not actually that old, the oldest 75 is only around 10yrs and the 76 just a few years older than that. Given that we have 747 that are much older and 777's that are getting on for 10yrs old aswell, I don't think there is any mad rush to replace any of them.

In your opinions, if I were to jump ship would BA be a good move?

Is it still a job for life or would my career end with the aforementioned long-legged B-Types?
