Leaving easy for Ryanair.. should I?
 
Anyone out there done this? Was it a mistake, or the best decision you ever made?

Ryanair pilots; should I leave easy for Ryanair?

(I am a NG 737 Capt 1000hrs+ LHS)

Any insight would be appreciated.

Money is ok but very bad CRM...

why you wanna leave easy??????? What makes you think anothe lcc will be any different? is it the lifestyle, crew, management? or the 5/4/5/2 rota system. If it is the latter why don't you opt out

5254 is killing me.

I am working 200miles/3hours away from home, with no prospect of a return to my home base.

My lifestyle is crap.

The management don't care about us.

Bearing in mind our responsibilities, how hard we work etc etc the money is poor.

need I go on?

"very bad CRM......."??? Bit of a strange response IMHO! You may choose to expand upon that one Captainic?

Fact is that FR suits some and not all, much like other companies. What I HOPE Captainic is referring to is that if you fall over in Ryanair don't expect mummy to "kiss it better". They wouldn't be the most people orientated company to work for. Just go to work, do ya job and go home. Take the money! People have left EZ to join them and I happen to know two who are not sorry. Hopefully any one or more of them will reply here and try to give you a balanced opinion having experienced both. I await with interest! :ok:

If I opt out, working away from home, it will mean less time at home. 5254 is bad, opt out is worse (for me).

Very strong rumour going around FR are going to go 5 on 4 off from next year to try and attract people like yourself. 5k a month take home as a joe average line captain no LTC or sim increments.

I have said it before if you are going to stay in Low Cost it boils down to money and time off and EZY just doesnt cut it. FR on every count.

As an aside plenty guys come over to FR from EZY but never lost a guy the other way yet in STN! That has to count for something. And most of the guys that do come are in general pleasantly surprised at what they find.

PS have to admit leave has been a thorny subject this year but is being addressed.

if easy is killing you i'm curious why you think fr would be any different.

the lifestyle ain't nothing to write home about. 5 earlies (more frequently reporting at 0530 local) 3 off 5 lates (more frequently finishing at 2355 local) 3 off. 7-8 hours block most days. i challenge the idiot who decided that was a great lifestyle to try it.

sure, come on in. but i'm sure you'll find the water just as tepid as you're finding at easy.

No doubt the RYR base is 250 miles and 3hrs 30 mins away!
You cant work for an LCC and live miles away, either move house or leave EZY.
You made the wrong choice somewhere along the line... :\

The Ryanair base I am looking for is 8 miles/15 min away from home.
The wrong choice I made was to trust easyJet managements promises when I accepted my command coupled with a base 200 miles away and promises of an early return home.
THAT'S why (as well as reasons above) I'm looking to leave easy.:*

Errmmmmm.... well don't expect that to be any different here - BUT we are so desperate for guys at the moment that they will undoubtedly give you your ema base from the outset so it seems to fall in your favour here! Good luck anyhow. It works for me:ok:

I have to say that I am surprised that Ryanair have such a clause in the contract. Surely they realise that that one sentence will stop many people from joining them. Is that why they are so short of pilots?

Yes of course RYR have, the grass is GREEN. Many a story of Pilots living in XXX and being based at ZZZ, and Pilots living at ZZZ being based at XXX.
That said with RYR increasing at EMA by 2 aircraft the timing could be good. I would personally select TFLY at Coventry or even Doncasters not a million miles from EMA never a negative comment about them on this forum.
You cant commute working for EZY it will end in divorce or death on the roads. Or you making a mistake on the aircraft because you drove to LGW before your oo early hours report on day 1

I shouldn't make comparisons with Excel and Ryanair or EZ on the pay front - they don't come even close if money features highly on yr wish list. Oh and you're as likely to be fobbed off onto FR for the winter season anyhow. May as well head straight there and earn the bucks no?

No, but they do have a base in Manchester which isn't a million miles away from the Midlands, and like others have said, there is no certainty that EMA will be given to hotnhi.

You'd think guys already in the company would be given priority witha new base woudn't you.????:8

there is a lot of grumbling at RYR but a great deal of it comes form a relatively small minority. many of us are quite happy. If you are a direct entry captain then I think you will find it quite a reasonable place to work - so long as your expectations are realistic. aircraft maintenance is excellent, punctuality genuinely superb. money ok although not quite as excellent as the headline figures make it seem. crews are ok and roster stability good. if you want to work near where you live then you may need to consider moving house. do not make the error of ecpecting a 'nice' place to work, RYR is extremely straightforward and bull**** or incompetence do not go down well. if you can do the job without making a fuss then welcome, we seem to need a lot more pilots. you can always leave if you don't like it
