Recently applied for a job as direct entry captain. Does anyone know what A/C they are recruiting Direct Entry Captains for, what bases and what the pay/conditions of service they are offering? Yes I know I should have known before applying but the A/C type is not specified on there website!!

Any colour you like as long as its a 737 Im told :D

All direct entry commands are for the 737.

757/767 commands are on senority. At present there are 646 pilots on the list. Pilots on command courses for the 757/767 are around 300.

We are trialing mixed fleet flying at present so this would change the whole thing is it comes off so who really knows.

ps "New" Bases are GLA, NCL, LTN, LGW, CWL, MAN, DSA, COV, BOH, STN, EMA, BHX, BRS.

Of these 737 bases are (or are about to be) LGW, DSA, BOH, MAN, LTN, COV, and maybe CWL.

When you say mixed fleet flying presume your talking 767/757 and not 757 and 737. I thought MFF on the 7576 was common?

When you say there 300 on comand courses for the 757/767 you mean they are ready for Command or actually getting one?

Mixed Fleet Flying in Britannia/T-fly is like BB said, the possibility to be flying the 75 and 73 or the 76 and the 73. Note, not the 73, 75 and 76. This is being trialled as we speak and the company is about to extend it to more pilot for further trial in conjunction with the CAA.

Also with 640 pilots total and 350 or so on the 75/76 (nothing to do with MFF anymore), it is higly likely that many of these guys who aren't already Captain on that type, will bid to get just that.
Hence if you join today on the 73 as a DEC, unless MFF really happens, it will be a long while before you get a command on the 75/76 as suitability AND seniority will come into play.

WRT previous question, starting salary is 40Ks basic. Agreed average days off per week is 2.6 but depending with seasonal requirements this can be more. it varies so but I would say something like 4/5 ON, 3/4 Off is not unusual. Like I said it varies and pattern aren't fixed.

Thanks Amex, you mention that basic pay is ppr 40K, what is the potential max earning, if you f.ex fly 100 hour on a month !

Since they are looking for DEC, is that because there is a lack of suitable F/O (lacking the hours ?). A F/O joining in the near future with plenty of hours, let's say 6500 on jet (not B737). What would be the likely scenario, command after a year or ??

If you've got 6500 hours then i guess you will be considered for a 737 command straight away. However there are plenty of 757/767 guys with the hours for command but don't want the 737. They are happy to hang on to long-haul etc and wait out the time. Also the company like to see 4 opc/lpc's before they evaulate you for command so that could be 2 years but i've heard that's being reviewed.

As Amex said you will be long time waiting for a transfer from 737 to 757/767 as its up to seniority.

If the MFF trial is approved then who knows but if 737 captains get put on the 757/767 before more senior F/O's then is going to get ugly. :eek:

When i said 300 for command i mean they are on command courses. Then they become P/C's and wait for a spot. That said if you count the guys that havn't applied for command for whatever reason then we are at about 250 on the list. (there are also plenty on captains on the 737 that are way down the list as you will imagine. :\

Also day off payments are £358 for F/O around £500 for captains and flight pay it £2.67ph sector pay around £12.00 (F/O).

I'm at LGW and average 15 days a month with around 20-30 sectors. ( i count geting back at 0200l a day off although technically it's a rest day). Also i've done around 30 flexi payments this year (slightly higher than average).

Ps: If anyone gets in then i'll refer you as we now get £500 for an f/O £750 for a Capt and £1000 for refering a TRI/TRE ;)

Not easy to tell how much you could expect to earn as an FO but say the following happens.

Basic 3330 per month
40 sectors 440
130 hours duty 267
3 flexi work days 1074
Total: 5111 before tax

If you take BB's case, he has achieved 30 days flexi this year so about 3 on average, each month. I have achieved 17 so far and might push to 20. Some other FO I know has done 36 and one of our Captain would be in the 70 area.

But do not be mistaken, Flexi work is not the norm and certainly not at that level ! So when the operation settles down, none of this figure will be achieved by so many. Beware!

Flexi work is 40% taxable too and you should not forget that your pension will be taken off that amount as well as your share for the training cost (don't know how much because on different deal).

On the B737 fleet, are there any lay-overs or do you always come back to homebase ? How many steps on the F/O salary scheme. Lets say you have been F/O 4-5 years ? What would be the basic salary ? Thanks.

WRT TUI Forum... It is still there.

17 increments for FO and Captains, also two scales existing but to answer your question, after 5 years scale 1, basic salary is £46149 (FY05).
Pay talks in progress so things could change from next year.
For info top scale 1 FO is 59461 but by then you should have moved to scale 2. For info again top scale 2 is £66595.

As for night stops/lay overs, there aren't many of them depending on where you are based. Usually it will happen when a UK base is short of crew so you will end up operating from there for a night or more.

Not many proper night stop at all for the time being but with the full introduction of Carmen next year, I understand that we should expect more nights away. Then again I understand that we will be able to express our preferences so if you are a night stop person or not, should make a difference to your roster.

We are going through a period of changes to whatever is happening today might not be in a few months... If you join, bear that in mind. We generally good conditions, I expect that we should remain an airline that provides a good mixture between lifestyle and work but who really knows what tomorrow will be made of.
