Life, Pay and Conditions at Astraeus

Seen the advert for 737 crew in FI for Astraeus. Am currently an F/O on the 73 and am thinking of applying.

Can anyone let me know what they are like to work for and a rough idea of what the current pay scales are.

Ta S.B.

Hi,

I can't help you with info on what they are like to work for as i don't work for them. However you might want to view this site for some info on pay etc (you may have already seen this).

FoilPPJN.com (astraeus)

hmm.. the link doesnt seem to want to work.
There is some info on the airline on that site though. Go to the bottom and look in Europe regional.

Hi Seymour,
Great company to work for, very varied and interesting flying.
Rostering is a bit chaotic, so the roster could be quite unstable. However, I always found crewing and rostering very approachable, I always got the days off I needed, and crewing would try to help out if they could.
You sometimes have to ride shotgun (i.e. jumpseat safety pilot), not so much fun on a flight to Sharm El Sheikh! (handy tip - rip the cushion off from the 4th jump seat behind the skipper and use it for extra padding on the observers seat. And you can find pillows in the cabin!)
Management all very approachable, you even find the odd director out on the ramp at 0530 on a Sunday morning helping out!
Basic pay is about 90% of easyJet last I looked, + flight pay of £2.22 per hour.
Mix of -300 and -700 flying, -700s are very nice, -300s, erm, less nice.
I found the flying much more civilised than lo-co; you only do two-sector days with long turnrounds, and much longer sectors. Also, the airports you go to tend to be a bit more challenging. I flew to 18 new airports I'd not been to before in six months with them.
As ever, depends where you're coming from and what you're looking for; but I was very happy there.

Zulu,

Great reply. I think a lot of us are interested in the inherent variety that charter provides. A few other questions:

1. Are pilots getting hired into the 757? Do you need a type/experience for that or are people funnelled up from the 737?

2. Have you moved on to a LCC? If so, do people look at Astraeus as a stop-over or a potential career carrier?

Cheers

Hi Riker,
1. I believe so - last I heard the plan was for a 3rd 757 in April, the previous 757s were crewed by a mixture of internal and external pilots. If you do a search here on PPrune w.r.t. Astraeus, you'll quickly find there are people here more directly involved in the operation who can probably answer these sorts of questions better than I can!
2. I moved to Astraeus from a LCC; I've moved to a 'major'. As I say, I was very happy at Astraeus, but the attraction of some very heavy metal (and I don't mean Bruce!) couldn't be resisted. Can't say how other people view things!
