Britannia Mainline
 
I was hoping that someone may be able to answer, are Brit mainline recruiting at the moment? I have recently been on the web site to download the application form but have only been able to find the form for Thomson fly. Where there is a link to Pilots on the site, I keep finding a blank page.

Anything else people would like to chip in would be appreciated, i.e If they are, what bases? What life is like at Brit etc.

-Mainline and TFly recruitment is common.
-Bases are: LGW,STN,BRS,LTN,EMA,MAN,GLA,NCL,CVT*,BHX,CWL
-A few sim rides taking place between now and August.
-Likely to be recruting for a little while since the number of pilots required is on the increase.
-Working for them, well I haven't been there that long but the lifestyle suits me, the money ain't bad and it is overall, a good bunch.
Somewhere else there is a thread about BY's arrogance but being a non local, I can't say that I have seen that.
I suppose it is like anywhere else when it comes to that but I have more time off than many so less time to worry about it.

I don't think you quite got it.

He said the recruitment is coincident ie. the process is for both.

Use whatever form you can find as the selection process lands you in a Britannia hold pool for both airlines with you putting your preferences.

I'm in the hold pool now & was sent a form asking what I want to be considered for:

1. 737 only

2. 737 or 757/767

3. 757/767 only

tick only one box.

Get your form filled in now. They have alot of ex Duo people in the hold pool but those people also have other offers on the table & Britannia might find their hold pool emptying quicker than they would hope.

I`m in the holding pool as well.
Did they tell you that they`ll call during june?? I suppose you haven`t heard anything gathering from your post.
Any idea how many are in the pool?

Thanks for that, the application form should be with them now. It's nice to hear that the Duo guys and girls and finding jobs.

Britannia are about to recruit 48+ pilots for Finningley, the 2nd TFly base. 757 recruitment is slow but I bet if you tick the 737 box and meet the requirements you'll get an invite. It really helps if you have a short notice period too.

Speaking of Tfly, how is it doing? Still having problems with Coventry? Are the Duo guys getting picked up by Tfly?

Also, if you bid the 737 at Tfly, can you eventually bid the 757/767 charter fleets down the road and vice versa (can you move back and forth)?

Same seniority list for T fly and Mainline but there is a type freeze so should I go on the 73, I would have to be in for 5 years. No further bond though.

My guess is that you could move back and forth because it is all down to a bidding system but it obviously would take a while.
Also I can't see any problems as long as you are an FO but when it comes to Captain, I am not sure how it is going to work.

Still, all down to bidding so as long as you are on the seniority list, you should get a go at whatever you fancy.

Which mainline bases do longhaul? Is is just pilots based at LGW and MAN that get a chance to do the longer trips, or do LTN, STN, BHX, EMA etc. pilots also get a chance?

Anyone have any idea which bases might be under/over crewed, ie where are most new entrants likely to be based?

Hi

I don't think any base is particularly over crewed even though LGW is a bit of an odd one. There, more pilots are needed during the winter months than during the summer ones. Hence it tends to be a "fat" base.
As for bases on joining the airline, MAN seem to be the trend yet this means nothing as guys who had initially asked for LGW were told MAN, only to end up at LGW by the end of the ground school.

The less likely one are probably BRS as it is small but popular.
Anyway, all done by seniority so for example my 1st choice was LGW. I got LTN and 6 months later was given LGW.
Guys who joined after I did probably required less time than that to get their 1st choice if any time at all.
2 bid round every year so the situation is rather fluid.

WRT Long Haul. Not that much up sto speed with it but MAN, LGW main bases for the summer so the pilots based there will probably do it.
During the winter it is different because it becomes what is cunningly called "Winter Long Haul Pilots list".
Basically all bases can do it, as long as you are a long haul pilot which once again is established according to your seniority.
Time to get on the list varies with the Long haul programme, retirements ect... I am not far and I have been here for about 15 months. Some guys from MAN would have been on the list for quite a while already though.
