In a last-ditch attempt to move the thread back closer to its title and away from the level of eulogising that seems to be spreading like wildfire, latest update is as follows:

747 flightplanned to move from Bournemouth to Manston later today. Does anyone know why as this is a strange move.

737 operating as normal ex BOH again - flying BOH-Jersey-Tenerife with a planned tech-stop at Santiago de Compostela.

There will apparently be an announcement later today about restructuring and the future at EAC. There are a number of suggestions that it will enter into a Creditor's Voluntary Agreement, which basically is an agreed path of action with those owed money. The risk of this is that it is not legally binding and because it's a voluntary agreement, there's nothing to stop any creditor deciding that they don't want to play ball. This sort of arrangement has pluses and minuses and it would be unreasonable to try to pre-judge the actions of any individual or group of creditors.

The issues at European are now also having an unfortunate effect on other companies, with the engineers at LGW being asked to go onto half-pay as a result of no 747 flying from LGW.

I think I've been there already whilst working for a certain freight operator who also flew B747s! It makes me wonder if there is a future for small companies who try hard and pay a decent wage. The only ones that seem to stick around for long are the AAIs and MKs of this world who reportedly pay peanuts, bend the rules and somehow manage to get past the CAA. This is definitely not a level playing field.

XH being converted to 440 seats....at present XF is a glider sitting at Filton......

It seems that TCD are still involved in EAL as well as the Baths..there is also interest from new investors who seem to value the EAL worldwide AOC..so all is not lost.....they just need to base their future on firm series flying and not mess around with ad-hoc positioning nightmares.....

Oddest thing of all is that they havnt gone bust...this is a good start??

The Baths are still involved but are hedging their bets by approaching Channex recently. So if the worst does happen their flights next year may well go to Channel, although for this summer, at short notice, they can only cover a part of the programme.

So does anyone know how it will affect EAC staffing? heard most are jumpin ship 2 air atlanta. They must need alot of new crew with all the sfb's and the new vegas route. I also heard they've got the Oz contract that EAC did over the winter?

It's a bit early in the game for people to be playing 'musical airlines.' I'm personally taking an optimistic view. Naturally there needs to be some hard thinking about the future of the 747 fleet but there is still work on the horizon (even for the 747s) and it looks as though the 737 fleet will more or less carry on as normal.

It would seem that EAL are under siege.....someone needs to take effective charge and steer the company out of this..its not just a hopping stoddard thats needed...

Nothing more come out of BOH today in terms of news as yet, despite expectation that something would be said. There are a number of tour operators who are extremely concerned, both for this weekend and going forward.

I understand from a mate at Excel, that they are already receiving calls from EAF crews. He says they will be holding recruitment days soon specifically for ex EAF staff. Watch their website on www.excelairways.com.

It does not appear to be much of a coincidence that the deal with TravelCity Direct for Air Atlanta to take over the Sanford flying was brokered by Excel Aviation.

So I've checked with a friend in the know who's told me that 'TravelCity Direct' did drop the contract with EAC ( as you say, in favour of Air Atlanta ) - and gave EAC only a single days notice to that effect ( albeit that it seems a strange contract for EAC to have agreed to ).

In any event, one imagines that when Excel brokered that deal they must indeed have known that it would inflict a grevious blow to EAC - I wonder how much Excel made out of the brokerage ?
